grommet issue

I got an S-10 and there are no factory to grommets for me to wire through so I drilled through the sheet metal and bought one.

I cannot for the life of me get the grommet to get in the hole. Can I use duct tape or something to smooth over the sharpe edges?

I can smooth over the edges and add duct tape around it. Will that serve as a good grommet?

Is it nylon or rubber? If its rubber use a little WD-40 on the outer edge of the metal to give it something to slip against. If its nylong, double check to make sure the hole is the right size.

You might be better off getting a firewall bushing instead, where it threads together intead of being a press fit.

They look like this-

They're made by Streetwire and available from several places, like Parts Express.

I can't get to the other side to use that.

I used a press busing and sound deadener. I rubbed my finger over it and it seemed like it would work.
