well in my taurus there is an exsisting hole in the firewall, the grommet is in the glove box (as in popped out of the whole) i was curious as to whether or not i need the grommet, it will be a bish to get back in

cliff: do i need a grommet for 4g wire in firewall hole

yeah replace the grommet or throw some tape around it. i have wires running through the firewall in my escape and my benz with just some tape around and for the escape it's been that way since 03 and the benz since 06 no problems or wear yet. i just made sure the wires would not have any stress on them or people wouldn't be hitting it when they sit in either car.

Just use the existing rubber plug that was pluging the hole. Cut out enough diameter from the plug to fit your 4g but small enough that it is a tight fit. Then tape or glue the plug to the firewall so it stays in place. It'll protect your wire from possibly rubbing the metal and prevent water from getting inside your vehicle. I'd also secure the wire on both ends of the hole with twist ties to hold it in place to prevent movement.
