yes all at the same house.Yea I would not either but they scammed 8 other families. Was it all at the same house?
nope, looked like a normal older guy. very likable and friendly.did he look like a gypsy?
see aboveI doubt the dood will be back to that house. My guess is its not his house. Figure out how the dood got access to the house or how he knew it would be unlocked at certain times and you probably figure out the scam.
Who knows if the guy cases empty houses to know when they are shown or poses as a rental agency to the home owner looking to rent a property to gain access, etc
...did the dood appear nigerian?
found out who owns the house last night. contacting owner today.I was thinking about this last nightI don't know if this has been asked yet, but do you know who the house belongs to?
I assume you've been there and gone in it...
If so, it's probly either his, or someone he knows that gave him a key..
Just describe him to the owner and maybe they'll recognize him...?
Sucks you said money is tight. I'd find the nearest cricket kiosk and hand the dood a 20 or 50 and ask for the info.they wont. thats private info.
where did i say money was tight?Sucks you said money is tight. I'd find the nearest cricket kiosk and hand the dood a 20 or 50 and ask for the info.
I don't know much about prepaid wireless though, if you have a phone and prepaid wireless card/acct do you need to provide valid personal info? Not like they do a credit check on you...
^^^^^^i'm screwed. had to borrow part of that money to pay him. not sure what i can do right now.
Just assumedwhere did i say money was tight?
they do require some sort of id, but who's to say he didnt steal someone elses?
money isnt really tight, just didnt have the extra cash. had 200 of it. borrowed 200 of it till friday when i get paid.^^^^^^
Just assumed
If money isn't tight go find a cricket kiosk, never hurts to try
I found one today. getting the deposit for the house on friday. I for sure have learned my lesson. Trust no one. I was once a very trusting person. Wont happen again. I have lost all faith in my fellow man. Here is what I see happened. The house is probably on the market. For sale or for rent doesn't matter. This guy probably gets someone to show him the house. During the walkthrough, or possibly even before, he finds out that the house is owned by someone out of town. It is vacant. While he is there, he unlocks a door as he is passing through. He leaves for a while and comes back to make sure the door is unlocked. When he knows it is unlocked, he posts an ad on Craig's and gets as many people to stop by as possible. He will never meet them at the house, he just sends them and tells them the house is open, just stop by. Then when you like it, he tells you to meet him somewhere public to complete the scam. He bought the rental apps at Office Depot along with the receipt book. His total cost in this whole scam including the throw away phone is probably $100. If he scammed 8 people out of $400 then his haul for this scam is $3100. Not bad for a few days "work". Almost for certain he has moved on to the next town to run a similar scam again.
Mike I am sorry you had to learn this lesson the hard way. I am sure that you will not fall for a similar scam again. We all have these types of experiences in life at one point or another. The bad news is that as you grow older and wealthier, they seem to get more expensive. While this set you back $400, remember the people who were robbed by Madoff. They are out billions. It happens to everyone. Do not feel ashamed. Good luck in finding a real house.
I couldnt find much. From what I can tell his name is Dan Britus average income is $21,917. Not confident in my findings. Sorry....
