Got into law school today!

the U is a great law school...pricey but good. Take a visit to Miami if you seriously consider it...they might even pay for travel expenses.
I also applied to University of Florida and FSU, which are both ranked better (FSU not by much, plus its in talahasee //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif ) but U of Florida is a Tier 1 school and it is cheaper than U of Miami, so im hoping i get in there. Probably won't though, because its a big reach.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif Miami is gonna be my #1 choice most likely if i don't get into Gainesville though. If i make FSU, i dunno if i will go there because of the location of the school, and its not that much better than miami to justify living in tallahasee vs. miami.

It is the #3 school in florida, and from what i hear it is a great school to go to if you want to work in Miami (which i do).
lol #3 in a state is not saying much. i've seen so many people up here pass up the oppurtunity to go to michigan just so they can go to some crappy school down south for warm weather and beaches. i'm saying pick the best academic school and go to that one, even if it's in wyoming. imo if i'm gonna lay out 20k on a school i wanna go to a good academic school, not because their is sunshine and beaches. i'm not saying miami is a bad school, but don't let the lure of south florida cloud your judgement.

as far as employment...tons of firms and they will take a UM grad over any St. thomas student, and over almost all FIU students.
what kind of salaries could you expect coming out of Miami w/ decent grades? Also, would oyu be at a big advantage going to U of Florida over Miami?

It is saying alot actually, when you have like 15 universities in the state of FL. Florida is better academically than Michigan, so I can see why people would move down here.

Lol @ everyone's stereotypes about the state of FL.

im not at all. I applied to 13 different schools all over the country. U of Miami was probably the lowest ranked one i applied to. I also applied to American U in DC which is a tier 1, UConn, UC hasings/Davis/ Rutgers. So believe me, im not deadset on living in florida at all. If i get into a better school, ill probably go for the better ones, but all the ones i applied to are reaches for me, so i won't be suprised if miami is the only school i get into.

actually no it's not. florida is ranked like 49th wheras michigan is ranked 24. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif michigan also has one of the top 3 business programs in the country.

u of florida is in no way better than u of michigan. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif U of Florida is a great law school though, Tier 1. Im crossing my fingers to get into there.

BTW im talking abotu law school, undergrad ranking is irrevelent. University of Florida law is ranked 43, and Michigan law is ranked like #9 or so.

The cold weather is keeping me from even applying to Tuck or SOM.

Gonna go to U of Geogia for my MBA, best place I can find for a decent price where I like the weather.

Congrats on getting in. I am already starting to prepare for my 08 admissions (which begin this august) my reach school will be Virginia.

Rutgers will be close, no?

It all depends on what type of law...I have friends at UF law who graduated and my gf's cousin got out of UM law. The one from UF got hired prior to finishing at UF for a prominent DUI firm in ATl, and my gf's cousing does navigation law and banks. It is too subjective to give a definitive answer. but as far as opportunities straight out of law school, I would pick UM strictly on ease of employment, not in terms of overall ability to make alot of $ right out of school. Don't get focused on portential earnings right out of law school, learn the law, and everything will fall into place. UF law is an amazing school, and the town is even better. better climate, most of the population is your age, and UF sports. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Moreover, tuition is so cheap, its about 1/3 the price of UM.

cliffs notes: UF, UM, FSU.

I have heard good things about Ross' executive program being great. Most of the people that get admitted choose better schools unless they are academics.

Rutgers will be close, no?
no not really, my 156 LSAT kills me. I have a 3.6 GPA and a 156 LSAT. My personal statement is extremely strong though, i think thhat is what got me a 3 week turnaround from Miami, since im just an average applicant in their eyes. Rutgers camden's LSAT median is like a 161 or so. Newark's is slightly lower, but i don't think i would go to newark

If you don't mind me asking, what did you get on your LSAT?
156 which was a huge dissapointment because i was scoring mid 160's on my practice tests, and expecting the same on the read deal. I was dead set on retaking the LSAT in june and possibly waiting a year, but now i am reconsidering it, because i think to make a huge difference in my job prospects, i would need to do 10 points higher at least to get into a top 25. Otherwise, it just seems important to make sure i do extreemly well.
