Got an idea for a new forum...

It is a good idea and would help out alot of us here. But the only question left is, will the installers post?

Some installers are far too busy to sit down and write out a detailed explanation of how to install something in a vehicle.

Although, Im sure they could find 10 minutes to spare. Also, I think that one guy had a great idea. Putting the year, make, and model in the title for search purposes. Also, having 3 serperate forums for Cars, SUVs, and Trucks would streamline alot of it, and keep it from being cluttered and unmanagable so to speak.

It would be great if there was a way to organize it - like dropdown menu style;

Car Make / Year / Model / (amp/headunit/powerlines/console/components/etc) / (installed product)

That way instead of threads like,

"Installing amp"

"Removing speakers"

You'd have

"Honda/Civic/1997/Headunit/Pioneer DEH-1234"

"Honda/Civic/1997/Amplifier/Orion 2500d"

But then again, that would involve some coding. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Yeah, that might be a little too much lol. I just think it would be a good idea for a forum that installers can come here and show their work, as well as help others with installation issues. I have full access to radio removal/speaker replacement diagrams to almost every car out there at work, so it wouldn't be a problem for me to get on here and help people out with certain cars.

i would gladly post descriptions of stuff ive done

Let's see here. You want me to post how to do things that I charge my paying customers for so that you can do it yourself with products that you bought from Trailer Park Terry's Discount Audio 5 Finger Deal Days Super Annual Clearout Center? I think not. While I do not mind helping out people from time to time, I am not about to openly post to the average consumer on how to do things yourself, thereby taking business away from the industry that employs me. I have no issues with posting pics of vehicles that we are working on and what is being done to them, but the how it is done will be shared only with people employed in the industry.

Um...ok.

There will always be a market for people who don't want to touch their own cars regardless. So, you don't want to cater to the needs of the DIYer, that's fine. I'd rather be here to help people with problems that I know I can help them with, rather then come here to see that same person ***** and complain when they snap their dash because they didn't know how to properly remove it.

I'm proposing an idea for a forum that is for installers. If someone comes here with a question on a car that they currently have in their shop, then this kind of forum would be where they would turn to.

I've been doing retail/installs for a little over a year now professionally, and I can't even begin to remember how many people I've helped show them how to do something in their vehicle, or I've explained how to get a door panel off to. I'm not about to tell them to either pay me to do it or go find out for yourself, because that's not what it's about. I feel that even though myself, or my company, isn't making any profit whatsoever from this person right now, if I lend them a few minutes to show them how something works, or how to do something in their car, they will remember that and come back here when they want to make a purchase.

Yeah, because we don't do that anywhere else on the forums...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

Perhaps you rocket scientists will understand a little better when you own your own stereo shop and derive your sole source of living from it. Nothing like telling people how to do it themselves and put you out of a job at the same time. Again, I too have helped out countless people on these forums and I will continue to do so, but not at the expense of cutting my own throat.

The people that made the effort to look it up for themselves aren't the people that pay you to do it, simple as that.

Example; Apple provides technical support, for $49 an issue.

Every single issue is covered for free online, and you can go to a retail store and get support for free;

We still make a fortune.

It's laziness and the American way.
