I always listen to a lot of film scores. Some of my favorites are Paycheck, 5th Element, Any of the Bournes, I, Robot, 300, and now Beowulf. Most of those cover the gamut as far as music styles are concerned having elements of many genres. They also work well when used to audition theater/music speakers.

I second Tool undertow...I used to use that to set my gains by ear before I started using the dmm method. Another good one was rage against the machine, the one with fist full of steel. loud as hell.

80's pop/club and classical music usually have strong production values and rich instrumentation to showcase SQ. Madonna's "Immaculate Collection" and the soundtrack from the original Conan movie would be two CD's as examples.

Peter frampton's new instrumental sounds excellent.

My favorite band is Angels & Airwaves to listen to, I think the instruments on the new CD sound excellent.

Hourglass....another good Prog Metal band with amazing sound quality

Suspyre...very clean

Creed....believe it or not will test your bass

Tony MacAlpine....very clean...lots of different ranges in there

Olivia Ong's "Fall in Love With" is very good as well as anything by Andy McKee (acoustic guitar) which you can audition his work on You Tube.

For the bass try Edgar Winter's "Frankenstien".

For the mids and tweets try "Bang Bang" by David Sanborn....has some good horn action to test the tweeters.
