ok, well i drive a 2003 new beetle Turbo S with the monsoon 8-speaker system and 6 disc changer. the system sounds good but i want more bass. i have the factory sterio(which is probobly the best stock sterio i have ever heard) set to treb +3, mid +6, and bass +9. i have 2 6 inch woofers in the door from the favtory so there is a decent "hum" in the seats but thats from the close proximity to the speakers.

im looking to get 2 10s or something along those lines. i want to have the subs in the trunk facing inward towards each other on oposite sides. this way i can maintain max trunck space and it makes it eaiser to carry my detailing box. i listen mostly to rock, a small bit of rap when i want to bump but sublime almoast always satisfies my bass urge. my concern is having to run my bass and mid so high to get some thump. if i get a sub i can balance the factory system with extra bass and not have to have the system so loud to get the bass i want.

most played bands: killswitch engage, saliva, linkin park, sublime, 3 days grace, system of a down, and the like. thanks in advance

Matt

a Dayton Ref H.O. 10 is what i run and i only listen to rock and metal. they will keep up with anything you throw at them.

put one in .7net ported to 30hz.

if you want two, do two in 1.5net ported to 28-30hz.

best sub i have ever heard for my genre of music.

woah! talk audio noob speak please. links to what you are talking about would be great. im going to get a consultation on usable space, sound quality, ec at a local shop. they have diferent setups on a cart that they can put in your trunk and it links with your sterio through the tape player. im going to try out a 10, 2 10's, and a 12. each ported and un-ported. from what i have heard in another beetle 2 tens is just stupid loud. one 12 is ok, not too loud but it doesnt seem to keep up well with dragonforce or KSE. havent heard just 1 ten just yet but i will have tomorrow.

now, as for amps. what should i look at? i dont want to under-power the sub or overpower it so im guessing that once i pick my sub i should match the peak watts of each right?

i listen to alot of metal and have never ran across a sub that wouldn't "keep up". in a crappy box not made for the specific sub you have, you can really hear problems, especially with some hard hitting double bass. best i've heard personally was 2 xtant 12's, not to say that they're the best ever, but they left an impression on me for sure.

My Image Dynamics IDQ sounds phenomenal on anything I throw at it, and I listen to a lot of metal/prog rock/etc. I would also look into the Daytons like TCGuy mentioned..SI Mags are supposed to be pretty good too.

Maybe 2 Image Dynamics ID10s wired to 2 ohms, and a Cadence FXA-3001 (500wrms@2ohm)? **** good SQ setup for about $350 bucks....

Or with the Daytons you would be more around $300....

I personally run sealed setups because I usually have significant space concerns, they are easier, and if a ported setup isn't done just right, you won't be happy with the sound. A single 12" ported properly would keep you happy I think, or 2 10s sealed...
