Good hard drive for 880PRS

I am looking for a 100-200 gig hard drive that i can plug into my 880PRS using the USB port. I was looking at a bunch of them but I'm not sure what data transfer rate and all that is good to use for a car.

As long as its below I'd say $200 the price is fine, but i definitely dont need anything bigger than 200 gigs.

I'm assuming you have the adapter module already? And your most likely going to want a smaller hard drive as the larger hard drives require more power to turn on than the deck can supply.

yeah i have the USB adapter kit and all that hooked up already. Ok well even 60gigs would be fine lol, right now my music is playing through my 2gb samsung K5 and i can only fit like 300 songs on it and I want most of my music on there.

Would it be smarter just to buy something like a Creative Labs MP3 player that has alot of storage as opposed to a hard drive? it just seemed like the hard drive was a cheaper alternative.

yes,i think that USB add on only puts out like 500mA you will need a soild 1amp to drive a harddrive.

Im not sure about other mp3 players but the ipod will work with no problem

I bought an external harddrive case for a regular IDE hardrive that used a 12v power supply...I haven't used it in a car but I don't see how that couldn't work.. Cases can be had for ~$20 and a 500gb HD is ~$100

Not sure if there is a capacity or file limit though

well i cant use an ipod because i use Napster (yeah, im that guy with all legal music) and its not Ipod compatible, or else I would.

I guess ill just cruise some websites for a cheap MP3 player or a 40-60gig HD

Naw..if the HD runs off 12v just figure out the polarity and run a wire to a relay
Yeah, IDK what voltage HD's run on, I'm pretty sure it's 5v and 12v, but I'm not sure.

If you can get some sort of step-down unit that can step 12-14 volts down to 5 you could run the 12 volt and 5 volt terminals of any hard drive to work off your car, via relays of course.
