Golfers needed.. Question on buying new clubs...

The Adams wedges should do just fine. I've seen people taking lesson on the range and seem like it didn't help them out. My brother and friends took lesson and they said it didn't help them out. A slice is one of the hardest to fix as a beginner because a golf swing different from swinging a bat or a tennis racket. If someone was with on the range that know how to swing a club could tell you how to fix your slice.

This is how I learned to fix my slice. I learned that a golf swing is a swing with the upper body while lower body is slightly fixed. Think of a coil of a spring turning and then letting it go. Turn with the upper body for the back swing and then the lower body for the forward swing. That is how I learned to fix my slice.

and your thinking the black adams wedge set for $80 will be good enough for me to get my game descent..
And i was NOT going to get lessons, but people tell me since im so new to the game it would be a good thing to have a pro tell me what im doing wrong and to learn the right way before i go on my own and get accustomed to a bad swing, posture etc..

So how long does it usually take to get the slice out of your swings... Some i hit 250 yards perfect some are 300 yards sliced and some are off the top.. Im just so inconsistent... I would hope after a few months i could get a drive that goes straight most of the time, and a descent iron game.. But it seems the morre i practice driving i get tired , sore, and end up getting worse.. and pissed off usually
Lessons are the best investment you can make.

The best clubs in the world aren't going to help out a shitty swing.

The problem is people will only get one or two lessons and call it quits. Most likely this isn't going to help them much. You need to do a good series of lessons so you can go through the whole list of things that you can do. Most good instructors will try to work on one thing at a time and then let you practice that on your own, then next time they'll add to that depending on how/if it worked.

The key is consistency and practice. Practice the shots you are shitty at. If you hit a couple good drives in a row, move on to irons/wedge shots. Most people struggle with sub-100 yard shots where you might have to make a half-swing. Also, chipping and putting are two of the areas where you can decrease your score the most.

Be good from 100 yards in to the green and you'll see your scores start to drop.

Man guys this is frustrating... I mean i have alot of athletic ability ( played hockey, soccer baseball, football and ran track ) , and am very competitive , so putting the two together , and ******* at the sport you are suppose to want to get into is just to slow of a process .. Its like my mind wants to learn faster than the body and its just not clicking .. yet...

Until you change that attitude, you'll continue to struggle.

People get frustrated and then things will just get worse from there.

You have to have a thick skin and just shrug off the bad shots or else it will stick with you for the rest of the round.

Golf is not an easy sport. I've been playing since I was a little kid and I still struggle now and then. If I'm shooting below 90 it's a relatively good day. My best round this year so far is 82. My best 9 hole score is 39, but unfortunately I shot a 47 on the front nine. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I guess it all depends on the instructors. I seen some good instructors and some that seem like they were just in it for the money because the instructions they gave was not helping out their swings and not targeting their flaws.

Most golfers do stop after a few lessons not realizing that golf is one of the hardest sport. I agree that a good instructor give good lessons but it's up to the golfer to practice what they have learned.

True, a crappy teacher isn't going to help at all.

Do some research if you can and find the best instructor. They will be able to advance your game to the next level.

Even the best athletes have a hard time golfing. Michael Jordan was one of the best and he still struggle alot with golf. Let's not even talk about Charles Barkley and his swing. Take your time and practice alot at the range. Frustration is one of the reasons why people quit golf.

Well the guy im going to i paid 150 for 5 - 30 minute sessions + the 1 hour introduction, Where he will take my swing, golf speed etc, do some computer analysis, and then talk about what i want to do "this year" I already told him im really serious and want to get the ball rolling and i want to shoot under 100 by the end of THIS season.. lol well if it happens or not im gonna try my all, cuz when i want something i work my *** off for it, and i really want to get into this

OH and lets say my first 2 lessons with him are on the driver... How often should i be practicing.. I mean last week when i went , i hit 3 buckets of balls ( just driving ) and i was SORE! muscles in golf are very different i guess, cuz i woke up the next day and it felt like i was in the gym for like 3 hours on 1 muscle group , but all over my body lol./. Just alot different, more stretching is definately needed for me

I don't hit more than a bucket each time I practice. Don't wear yourself out.

Hit a bucket, then go to a putting green if they have one and practice chipping and putting.

Do this a couple times a week and make sure to practice what your instructor tells you to do. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Also, it never hurts to maybe sign up for a golf forum to get tips and tricks from other people.

http://www.golfwrx.com is a good one, and I'm a member at http://www.golfdiscussions.com

It's not the quantity that count. Once you know how to fix your slice, one large bucket of practice is enough. With one large bucket of balls, I would hit like five different clubs. Start with the shortest irons first and then driver should be last because so you won't get tire first.

I'm suprised that no Golfsmith is in San Antonio. Golf Tec is a good place to get lessons and they are located in Austin and Houston Golfsmith stores.
In the DFW area there is a lot of golf stores and one of the best place to go is http://www.pgatoursuperstore.com/

Im back home for the summer time.. Off of work and hanging with friends and family this summer.. it was a burner last year...

But yea i wish i would have started this when i first moved to san antonio in 07.. Cuz the courses there are beautiful... i went with my buddies to the la cantera golf resort a few times.. never golfed, just enjoyed everything out there

Just the little bit of advice you guys give helps me out alot, i see things a little different and you throw out options that could really help me out or to stay motivated..

To me its like a video game lol .. If i have been playing for a long time and just cant beat a level or get past a spot etc, i just get pissed and turn it off , and when i try it the next day ( after rest ) its easy... Kind of like golf for me right now, if i do to much in one day i just get to a point where im not getting anywhere
