I golf but i do it for fun, not competing, so im not Super knowledgeable about it in general..

My buddy wants to get into golf, so im wondering what kind of clubs he should be looking into.. Doesnt want custom/fitted clubs, just due to he will only be playing once a week or so for fun and to get out with us..

We have a new nevada bobs now , and it has a TON of new clubs... Just want a general idea what kind ( brand ) , degree, etc he should be looking into...

Does not want entry level as he will progress and learn and keep these clubs for a while.. so naming off of linking a few pages of good "novice" type clubs from woods, irons, putters etc

Look at used Pings on Ebay. I have a set of Ping I3 O-size that I have been using for 3 years now and man they are solid. If he wants new, look at the Ping G10. Great clubs.

His driver should be one that would be easy to get into the air. Look into a 10* or 10.5*'s of loft. The Cobra's I wouldn't mess with, even with 10*. They would be to hard to get up in the air for a weekend golfer. I would look at a Taylormade Burner (the 07 version) They are good solid, and easy to balloon in the air (which is what a weekend golfer wants) I have a Titleist 907D1 and it's a very solid club.

Wedge: Wedges should be titleist or cleveland, I'll let you choose from there.

Putter: You just have to demo these. It's hard to find a good putter that YOU like. Demo, Demo, Demo.

Anything else just ask man

When I went a lot I was shooting into the high 70s, sometimes pushing par, but never made it and I just have el cheapo Arnold Palmer clubs, which suite me just fine. Years back I was going twice a weeek all through the summer.

I have since then quite golfing as my buddy moved away a couple years ago and just recently started back up with my other friend who never got into gold till this year, but fell in love with it and we go once a week. Going in a couple hours actually, lol!

Anyway, what I am saying is my 179 set has suited me just fine and only thing is now, they need regripped. I do have an expensive driver and putter, both ping, and those two ran me close to 300 dollars, lol!

Just saying, don't go overboard, especially if he is just getting in to it.

Good luck!

I still use some older Tommy Armour 845s.

I love them, my dad passed them down to me after he moved up to some Callaways.

However I do not golf seriously, just go out with friends and have fun. But IMO they are great clubs.

I also use a cleveland sandwedge and a oddessy white hot putter I think a #3?

I agree with what someone said hitting up ebay for a used set of some decent pings or something.

I would have him look at cobra s9's or FP's. Good irons for a decent price.

I do agree with above, putters have to feel good to you.

I like callaway drivers myself, but havent hit everything on the market.

Dunlop, Topflite, Slazenger, and now cleveland have complete starter sets.

Craigslist is also a good place to look. If he sticks with big brand clubs, he should be more than happy with a used set.

I would definitely recommend a Titleist 983K driver. You can probably pick up one for $50-$75. I have had mine for about 2 years, and I can still hit just as far with it as any club that I have personally hit.

I wouldn't worry about wedges, a 3-P set and maybe a sand wedge should be fine. I have always thought my dad's Callaway X-14's, maybe they were X-12's, were easy to hit. I would just look for something that was top of the line 3+ years ago and try to pick them up cheap used.

I bought some knock off irons just to start because I just didn't know if I was going to like golfing much or not. The irons are durable and I miss hit a lot and they have yet to break. I have gone threw a bunch of woods knock off or legit the heads fly off of them. the cheap 90 dollar mcgreagor I have is the best one the adams carbon fiber I have is half in the bag after a few months. even a real taylor made r7 I think after a few miss hits was fubared. If you are not good don't buy awesome clubs just to ruin them I learned my lesson.

How much is he looking to spend?

You can get a few of the older taylormade, callaway, adams, etc. iron sets for $400 or less. Then there's quite a few good drivers out there for $150-200. '07 Burner, Cleveland Hibore XLS, callaway FT-5.

I sell clubs for a living so I consider myself fairly knowledgeable on the subject. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

thanks for the replies.. he wants to spend right around 5-600 and here is what he picked out from going to NB today and with a little net research.. what do you all think>??

Sorry about all the links , but this should kind of give you an idea of what clubs and prices he was looking at
