FYI the tone will be blue toothed thru iPhone 4

HU volume 3/4 way up

40hz 0db sine wave test tone

iPhone volume 90%

HU EQ flat all the way across(?)

iPhone EQ(?)

HU sub level(?)

HU loudness off?

Those are all the variables I can think of at the moment. If anyone can help me out with the question marked ones, or correct the others it would appreciate it. Thanks

I wouldn't burn it to a cd if phone bluetooth is your preferred method of listening.

I'd set the sub volume to about 3/4 of max -- whatever that is. That will leave you a little room for adjustment on songs that sound a bit weak in the lows.

Might go with a higher frequency tone too. I believe the point of a 50 or preferably 60hz tone is because most dmm's are calibrated for that frequency (in-home AC). Probably not much difference, if any, but something to be aware of.

I've found that the outputs of most (even super cheap) music players and phones have minimal distortion at high volume. When I use my phone I usually have the volume at 29 or 30 (max is 30). Even my 6 y/o's $20 mp3 player barely distorts at full volume. So I'd set it at or very close to full volume.

Since you listen to an external source it makes no sense to me to use a CD to tune with.

Keep in mind though - that if you tune with the external source - when you DO put a CD in it may have a little stronger signal so you'd want to be aware of that especially at high volume.

He asked about both phone volume and phone EQ, which are two variables cancelled out by a CD. Also is he using an app to generate a tone? Because if so, many of those apps have different volumes for the same level tone, wouldn't trust most.

Sure, cancelled out by the CD, which would be super if you're going to be listening to cd's most of the time.

Since the phone will be the source it is logical that you would want to use the phone to tune the system. Set the eq flat.

IME, the phone will generate a weaker signal than a CD will.

Setting up with a CD may result in unnecessarily limited output.

A CD would output less.

AUX and bluetooth both get amplified by 5% from the phone as the phone even on a flat eq will push more power/boost.

Unless your headunit has an SLA setting for cd's which could be stronger then a device output.

So he sets with the phone. What happens when he puts in a CD with a hotter signal?

That's a rhetorical question. Because it may be a smoke show.

I would tend to 2nd setting with whatever device setting you normally listen. I know on my Tundra factory HU the XM, Bluetooth, CD, and USB all vary on strength of output. A song from the USB at level 30 would need to be at level 35-40 on a CD to equal the same output.
