At low power, there are some passive systems that sound great and work fine. In general they have higher distortion and waste power as heat. Some, like Dynaudio and a few others, are great and you will never notice the passive xover distortion.

At high power active slaughters all passive systems. Acitve is cleaner and allows more undistorted power to reach the drivers.

If you have what's you listed above you are pretty much set. Just get a 4 channel amp that puts out rated power and you are ready to do active. You may not need the EQ so maybe sell it towards money for the 4 channel amp.

not junk and yes those are crossfire and are nice pieces.
You must be mistaken, because this guy knows everything...it's surely junk.

I don't recognize them, so they are probably a knock-off/copy-cat brand. It's definetly not a quality peice, or I would know it.

yeah he was prolly the one tell me the the hsk165 were better then my focal utopias

Like I said, only the lowest end cheesy units. Mostly by companies, who have no business making eq's, buying the same chinese components and slaping on a new face plate. Same junk inside.
hmm, i just dont consider os crossfire or phoenix gold to be lowest end junk.

why is running active so great. ive never tried it but just wondering. ive have alpines 9887 with oz's 180cs off a 75x2 amp and have been thinkin about trying it.
thanks
you should probably go over to the DIY forum, some place better then here to ask about running active. everybody on here is like oh my 100$ throw together system beats the crap out of high dollar components. just because they are running "active"
