Going Active / Adding Dedicated Midbass Questions

What's your budget
For a headunit? Like $150-$200, Not trying to go overboard

April 28th.. Huge event.. Ill let you hear a real mid bass setup
I was considering coming down to that. I'll probably be down there unless something comes up on that weekend. Would be nice to hear another car and compare.

Looking at these for headunits -
Clarion CZ702

Alpine CDA-117

Any other suggestions?
Are you going to use an MS-8 or not? There's no point whatsoever in getting an active capable head unit if you're going to use a DSP to do the same job but much better. I would go with a Clarion, but not the CZ702. A CZ302 would do you just fine along with an MS-8.

Agreed. HU sound quality matters more than tuning capabilities since using a DSP.

Why do you suggest the CZ302 trumpet?

Honestly, even a CZ102 would be good enough as a CD transport and aux source for an MS-8 system, but it lacks Bluetooth. The CZ302 is one step below a CZ702.

Just a couple here and there when a customer brings them in. Just have a history with clarion, I know they are trying to dig themselves out of the trenches they put themselves in but I tend to live by the fool my once principal.

Clarion is and always has been a sound quality brand, and I'm proud to provide their products to my customers. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend one of their single DIN head units to accompany a good DSP. However, for the OP I still think he can keep his current head unit unless it's missing required features. JVC is good brand as well.
