I am thinking about getting a 4ch amp a set of mids and tweets and then running everything active. I'll probably get a next 4ch amp that 80rmsx 4 and then a pair of eD eu650 mids and possibly this lgm tweeter http://www.madisound.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?cart_id=4621582.15092&pid=635 The tweeter is supposed to be very similar to one used by jl and diamond on the original hex's that were made in germany. Total cost comes out to under 270 for everything. How do you guys think it would sound? Would everything work fine? Let me know of any recommendations you may have. Thanks.

Eric

Cool, I always liked the tweet on my VR's and XR's so that sounds good to me. Any idea what crossover you are going to be using? I too plan on doing an active setup soon. CD-2 neo's coupled with some Koda 8's.

i dont think it will be under 270 after you buy a 3-way bandpassable xover that does 18db\slope

but it should work fine if you really feel like tuning it all by yourself. props to you mang.

active is fun, but a little harder. make SURE you can bandpass the mids and highpass the tweets.

its not hard at all as long as you know what the speakers can do and you know how to set it up. if you dont know about the x over poin for a tweeter call the manufacturer they should be able to tell you

do I really need a 3 way bandpassable x over? WOuldnt a quality 4ch amp have the ability to do this without an externalcrossover? I was under the assumption all I needed was somethiong to protect the tweet. Fill me in if Im wrong.

I dont have an external eq and my pioneer h/u only has a very basic one. I am plannign on trying to set it up w/o an external eq but if worse comes to worse I will get one. Any recommendations for one around $100?

Also, I am considering running 2 seperate amps rather than a single 4 ch. i would run a NEXT q.12 (2x60w @4 ohm) to the tweets and then a NEXT VRz 2.400 (160wx2@4ohms) to the mids. Its only $50 more than it would be to run a 4 ch, so I may do it. Do you think it will be worthwhile?
