As of now i have 2 15" mtx 8000 subs powered by 2 mtx 8302 amps. I guess im satisfied with the performance, but im really looking for more. Im pretty new to the sound system scene, so i dont know much about subs and such (difference between ohms, or abbreviations, etc)

It seems to me that the subs seem to be kind of high pitched, not a real deep bass that im lookin for. ive toggled the settings in my kenwood head unit, but whenever i get a sound thats close to what im looking for, im sacrificing the sound level.

a few of my thoughts are...

Im not over-powering the subs (current subs are around 1000 watt rms), so if i were to get higher watt subs, would it be any louder since in using the same amps?

what are the common notes on mtx, like are they known for sound quality, noise, or are they not thought about as a good company.

what sub(s) would you recomend to replace my current 15"s, that are equally or more loud, and have a deeper bass.

thanks for your time, ill except all and any info you have to help me out.

well are they in a ported box or sealed? if you have sealed then a ported box will give you the bass your looking for....

as for MTX i have had no experience with sorry //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

i currently have a sealed box.

i was told ported box's dont produce enough sound....

wen i first got my subs, i bought a smaller box, like one to fit a truck. but my subs were too long for the box, so i cut holes in the back of them, and the sound was really weak. do you think that has anything to do with the size?

well if you dont give your speakers enough room to breath then they will sound really crappy. so the truck boxes probably wasnt big enough to accomodate those 15"

Bad install can make the best speakers sound bad.

the ported box doesnt produce enough sound is bulllcrap.

if you "tune" your box high then you wont get the lowest bass signals. so if you want SQ and it loud you usually want to port to about 32-40HZ

(There is alot more to porting your box than just cutting a hole in it i learned the hard way //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i would say if you want more oomph then you need to port them but how much space do you have because the box is going to be pretty big for just one.....

i will look into the spec for the mtx subs in just a second.

Hz is a frequency when sound is produced it vibrates at a certain frequency. when i say 32Hz it means that frequency is the lowest the ported box can pruduce without hurting the speaker. anything below that and the sub thinks there is no box whic means it is freeair.

porting to a different Hz requires changing the size and length of the port.

well that should work for sealed. but if your still unhappy then i would suggest gnomeaudio.com for a ported box. all you have to give them is the max dementions and what Hz you want it tuned too. 25-35 for SQ35-45 For spl

they do really good box really cheap (cheaper than any audio store even with shipping)

what hz do you think would be best? im unfermiliar with alot of aspecs of subwoofers.

im guessing SQ is sound quality, what does spl mean?

thanks again

edit: on that site i can choose 3 types of boxes. sealed, ported, or bandpass... whats bandpass do?

SPl is sound pressure level

SPl is for those who just want to be loud

SQ is sound quality.

if you want to go SQ then i would port to 28-32 Hz

Bandpass...... i am not totally sure of the advantages/disadvantages of that. i know you dont get alot of SQ though....
