GM factory interration adapter needed?

I have an 06 chevy silverado. I understand what these do, but my chime aparantly broke about 3 months after purchasing the truck new. I was happy because I hate the noise. A guy at a car audio place said I need it, as it is linked to the airbag and other safety features, Is this true? I would like to just hook up the radio without this gadget as I dont want the chime to be working again. What do you guys think? TIA for your input, Chuck

No, it's not linked to the airbags or any particular safety feature, unless you count the seatbelt warning chime.

Cool, thanks. If I order a hu from crutchfield, will it come with the correct wiring harness? or would I have to do something custom, cause I deleted the adapter.

Forget about the chime, they try the same shit with cavaliers. I put an aftermarket stereo minus the ridiculously priced kit in my 01 cavvy, then later crashed it into a deer and an embankment. Airbags worked flawlessly otherwise I might not be typing this.

If there's no Onstar or Bose, you don't really need the interface.
