Getting fired, am I facing legal issues?

D/l'ed some torrents, and some stuff on rapidshare, but I don't think they can track the rapidshare stuff like they can torrents, but I may be wrong.
just delete it they wont go get a warrant for it and if they do they are ****ed cuase they cant trace it

do they know youve brought it more than once? if not maybe say it was a one time thing like you accidentally left it in your car and you didnt want it to get stolen //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

each computer is assigned a port on the server, all they have to do is trace the port through which the torrent was downloaded, it also logs time, they could match up time that the download was started, and when he was clocked in, since there are little to no other employees working, it will be real simple to find out who did it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

No, it's not a government contractor, but they are heartless. Some money went missing once, and they found out who did it, told him if he returns it they'll just fire him and not press charges...he returned it, same day cops show up and arrest him.
so they are two-faced liars... Watch out for that "Don't let it happen again" speech...

Not true. It went through their netwroks. They could be logging traffic.
They could be logging traffic but it doesn't tell you shit about anything. It would just be a bunch of numbers like 205.200.44.198 or something or caraudio.com or google.com

If they were going to save every byte of data which flows thru the network they would need a harddrive that is 10 Peta bytes big.

I really think you would have been fired by now if this was that serious. No way they axe the VP before you if you were the problem. Unless the activity at your company was a bad reflection on him. If it was not written in the handbook and you get fired for it, you could sue. If it says no laptops in your company handbook and you broke that rule, that's grounds for disciplinary action. But if it was never told to you, they can't fire you. Was it told to you no laptops?

don't format, get a second hd and change them out. That way there's no chance of them using any data recovery to get at your deleted files.
Are you guys suggesting that he guaranty his dismissal by tampering with company information systems?

Great idea... Your best bet is to act stupid and dont do it again.

Yup you are clueless on network matters. Carry on with talking out of your ***.

All this shit is makin me nervous. I'm on the forum at work //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

and i'm downloading weeds on RS //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

but i've been here for 3 yrs and no problems so far. and our server just dropped 2 of it's 3 drives, so not much is left anyways.

dude the VP saw your laptop big deal. say you bring it because you got class after work or something like that. also say it must have been someone parked outside our building using our network. "i dont know what youre talking about" just say that. right now all they know is you brought it to work so what! if you cant keep your job over something like this then you must not be too valuable of a worker
