getting a free plasma?

Ok, so im planning on buying my parents a new samsung TV for xmas. I was looking on ebay for it since i have a couple grand in my paypal that i need to get rid of anyways. Well i ran accross a brand new one that is perfect but has a 5" crack in the frame that is selling for a few hundred dollars. My plan was to buy this off of ebay, and then buy the same exact TV in a local store.

The question was, can i switch out the TV's and return the broken one in the brand new box the next day and get reimbursed for a fresh one free? Or do they have serial's on the box that match ones on the TV or something to prevent things like this?

a woman went into wal mart while I was there and tried to retrun a Ninendo DS she said she bought on black friday but had lost the box and paperwork

the manager went and checked the serial, turns out she bought in in june of 07 or so and the manager made her look like an idiot and I loved it.
