one of my team mates works at lowes and cuts all the wood for us and all of his cuts are dead on. He does take his time and measures twice, cuts once

i feel your pain man when i built my box 2 weeks ago i went to lowes 1st and had all my cuts made and they were so far off i had to buy all new wood. I went to Home Depot the 2nd time and all cuts were exact. Moral is i will never go to lowes again even if it cost me more to go to HD

I get almost all my wood from lowes and have them cut it in specific broad sizes so it'll all fit in my little civic (obviously a full sheet won't fit in my car if its not cut up). They do pretty decent with the broad sizes. Home Depot couldn't even get that right though, I try to avoid HD at all costs, only get my 2'x4' 1/2" mdf from there and never let them cut it.

That's what I used to mark my fixing lines. I'm talking about the ledge on the table saw that keeps it straight. There is no such ledge on a circular saw.

A tight budget doesn't allow for a lot of practicing.

Understandable, but you can't learn if you don't do your own work...
I put my box together after they finish cutting to see if everything sits even. Don't worry, it will stand up if you know what you're doing. The main problem with inaccurate cuts is the some of the Lowes guys don't care, have no skills, and don't know how to position the blade before cutting. If my box is sitting funny, I just make them keep cutting until they get it right. I accidently found this guy a Hd that use to be a carpenter and he makes perfect cuts every time. If he is not there I don't get any cuts made.
Lol they have a sign that says no accurate cuts.
