Well, its time for me to get rid of the bird. The gas prices and the amount im driving makes me spend atleast 300$ a month on gas. So I am looking at a 4cyl. Its gonna **** ass not feeling the v8 anymore. Here are some choices I've been looking at. ***** have 11mpg and 20 hiway

2005-06 Honda Civic LX (5SPD)

2005 Ford Focus ZX3 ST (5SPD)

03 Hyundai Tib (5SPD)

04 Acura TSX w/ 45k miles 20k shipped out the door.

05 Mitsubushi Eclipse (5 or 6SPD) not sure wot they come in.

Thats about it for now. I'm really looking at the focus because its a 20k car with a special employee discount I can get witch lowers it to 14k. Its charcoal grey with a sport package. Acually looked decent. I'm not planning to rice cake it, but maybe put some rims on it and a few minor engine parts. Thats it. The car is 28mpg city 34mpg hiway //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Is there any other cars I can look at that are nice and sporty for a decent package.

Scion's can kiss a fat ass. So don't reccomed them //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

just throw some 14" spinner hubcaps on it and you be pimpin'

For one, do you really think you'd make up $6,640 by buying the Civic Hybrid vs. the regular Civic ? Let's do some quick calculations, here ...
Civic = 35 MPG

Civic Hybrid = 48 MPG

Let's say the average gas price over the next several years is $3/gallon and you drive an average of 12,000 miles per year ...

Gas used per year ...

12000/Gallons = MPG

12000/MPG = Gallons

Cost per Year = 3*Gallons

Civic = $1028.57

Civic Hybrid = $750

Difference = $278.57

6640/278.57 = 23 years and 10 months to make up that $6,640 ... And this doesn't even take into account the fact that you have to replace the battery every several years.

Hybrids are overrated ...

Civic = 35 MPG

Insight = 63 MPG

Civic = $1028.57/year

Insight = $571.43/year

Difference = $457.14/year

Difference in price = $6070

6070/457.14 = 13 years and 3 months to make up the initial purchase price difference ...
A+ in math?

Yea its true, the hybrids are overrated. The new civic looks slick though, but I couldn't stant knowing my car is half/electric. Plus they are 6k more than a base 05 civic.

I was looking at subaru's, but **** 15k for a 72k mile car WILL NOT cut it.

Like I said, that focus caught my eye. I dunno, but it looks pretty dang decent for a 4cyl econmy car. Plus with all of the things I can get through work, I can have a pretty nice car. Leather kit, seat heaters, sunroof, hotshot, wheels, perhaps a billet grille, smoked tails, and finally my system. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I think we were both kidding...

I think it's going to be hard to beat the Focus if you can get a huge discount on it ... Do you work for Ford ?

No, but we do alot of factory sunroofs with their vehicles. My dad and I work for the same company. Webasto Hollandia. Also, my dad knows the owner of our local Ford dealship so he cuts deals once in awhile with us. Just the fact that we cut deals with him for roofs. Adding a roof, and other mobile options can eaisly raise a car's value new up 2-3k.

Anyways the car came from Indiana and its a special priced vehicle. Fully loaded, new is 20k. Its some type of special ford discount. Right now standing the price is 15,002. George (my dads bud) owes my dad a favor so he can bump 1k off easy and call it a day. Lets just say I will buy alot of my cars from him. Very good, reliable person to work with.

I say the TSX. Not only do you get a nicer car for the around the same price as the rest.. you get Honda reliability as well. And that car has a pretty beafy engine.. so you might not miss the V8 as much. In fact, I would put money on the TSX to beat that thunderbird in a drag.

I like the price you're getting on the focus man. I'm not a huge fan of the car but they are nice.. and better than what I have lol. If I was in your situation, I'd have the focus for sure man.

Unfortunately, the newer VWs have had some serious quality control issues in the last few years.
My parents have been considering buying a VW that I picked out for them to go along with their current vehicle... it's a 96... that is pretty old, do you think there would be any quality issues with it that I wouldn't be aware of? Sorry man, it's just I never heard any problems with VW before... can you fill me in? Im just looking to get the facts before I reccomend my parents something that drains their pockets.

Going to be quite a difference. One that I suspect that you will find less agreeable to that of paying more to drive a V8 powered car.

How you are getting only 11mpg/town and 20mpg/hwy is a little odd though...

With my most recent minor Trick Flow Upgrades to my Thunderbird, I actually get better efficiency. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I'm about 18mpg/town and 26mpg/hwy. (Not that far off from OEM Spec! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif )

I suspect that with a little tweaking, you could get your car's efficiency up a little more, and still have the V8.

It will still be a V8 though......

2005-06 Honda Civic LX (5SPD)

2005 Ford Focus ZX3 ST (5SPD)

03 Hyundai Tib (5SPD)

04 Acura TSX w/ 45k miles 20k shipped out the door.

I have a friend that just bought an 03 Tiburon with the 2.7L V6, and he is thrilled with it. He is used to driving a Mustang GT so this may speak to something of the abilities of the Tiburon. He now gets about 32mpg/hwy and the car easily can put you back in the seats. It's a pretty intense little car!

Otherwise, all of the other cars that you mention do have a good track record of reliability and ok performance.

If you can get passed the Focus' cheap and but ugly appearance, the price tag on the TSX and the Eclipse, then all is well.

I'd either look into making your bird more efficient, or trying the Tiburon or Civic.

Depending on how fond you are of your Thunderbird, you may also want to consider a slightly older model.

An 80's Aerobird Turbo Coupe.

2.3L Turbocharged 4cyl.

I've owned two, and can say that appearances are most certainly decieving with these cars.

They are extremely reliable, have a superb ride quality, average about 32mpg, and easily haul a*s!

Just something to think about..... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

There is quite an aftermarket following in parts and enthusiasts for these cars, plus, one can generally be purchased for well under $8k.

I won't even touch Scion. I can't think of a more worthless and but ugly product line. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Yea I'm going to look at a Tib also, the focus's price tag is hard to beat though.

Insurance is raping me for these new cars though. My parents are making me get my own policy. For the focus its around 1500 every six months. which is 250$. car payment is 173 a month.

For insurance on the Tib GT, i could only imagine..

I'm going to recommend a diesel vehicle. If you can find a light car with one, not necessarily the VWs. They are just more efficient, high torque engines, and they are dead sexy =).
