gains????

well 90% is a bit much.....there really wouldnt be any clipping but i would def. jus recomend turning the volume up a little above your normal listening volume that way you'll have a little room to spare if you get the urge to play volume master.(ex. when that 16yr old w/ a legacy 1000w amp and a crunch sub pulls up next to you w/ all his wondows down thinking he has the best system in the world....and he cant hear your sterio cause you have your car deadened..so u roll your wondows down and blow him away....heh)......and turn the gain up till you hear the distortion (and like corsica says try to use a couple diff. songs just for a all around setting) then back it down aprox 1/8 of a turn.....so it would be set a bit above where you play volume master...heh

Well i need to deaden my car, but thats gonna be on hold. Found another blazer today possibly. Just gotta have the lady talk to her hubby to find out tha deal on it and how much....gonna need some body work though....

Originally posted by Jmac They adjust the sensitivity of the amplifier (in most cases.). Basically, if you make the amplifier more sensitive, you get more power and more distortion. You want to keep it to a point where you get no audible distortion (Unless you're going all out SPL) while still getting the desired power output. The general rule of thumb is to set your sensitivity to the pre-out voltage of your head unit. So if your head unit has a 4V sub pre-out, you should set your sub amp to 4V. If it has a 2V sub-out, you should set your sub amp to 2V. Understand ?

Or you can do it by ear and start at the lowest (Lowest sensitivity is the highest number on the gain.) and turn it up until you hear distortion and then turn it down a little until you get no audible distortion. This will give you the maximum amount of power with a minimal loss in sound quality. When you do this, you should choose music you're familiar with so you know it's not the song that is distorting.

on the second suggestion yes we are, but the 1st one is totally wrong so we took iot and broke off on a tear. Its just a really bad way to try to fux with it.,

okay here to sum up---

Do this at ur normal music level with music ur familar with

Turn gain up till u hear distortion and then back a little bit till u cannot hear it.

This should make it easy man. Let us know if u need nething.

the reason for setting the volume at 2/3 is that not all songs play at the same loundness, say for a mp3, many wont play as loud, this will give you room to turn your hu up a little, or down a little. also, you say that it might sound bad on other songs, if you have any half decnet hu, you will be able to fine tune your bass with the sub-woofer bass control...

You sound suprised??!?!!! Been on this forum long?

I agree...my volume meter goes to 30, so 90% of that would be 27. I can't turn any song up over 22 without it being distorted, so with that in mind I would say tune it to your most enjoyable music level. (16 for me = only 53%) If you tune it to not distort at 90%, it won't be hitting as hard as you'd like when your normally listening to it.

i have a jbl 1200.1 (yeah yeah i know theres a million of us who has it) but anyways, which is the lowest gain settings? all the way counter clockwise or counter clockwise? is it on the 4volt or the other one? (i forgot..i think its 2 mA) coz i dont want it to be too loud coz i still have stock speakers)

i have a problem with my gains , any one want to set mine up , i have all that stuff listed below and i sometimed get pissed cause i just never sounds right when I change songs. and I like the x-over cus it give more sound control. any ideas?
