Gain / voltage question

on a power amp, some have a 'gain' dial and some have a 'variable input sensitivity' dial............are they the same thing? im guessing NOT because i cant increase the volume of a sub without more voltage available from the h.u.? my problem is i LOVE the way my set up sounds @ medium to higher volumes, but when playing quietly id like to be able to have the sub volume/presence increased without useing loudness or bass boost?-(which i find color the sound.)

jvc hu, 2 v sub out 5 v f and r.(tried the rear out @ 5 v and didnt seem to make too much difference)

phoenix gold xennon 600

rl-p 12 (wheeeeeeeeeeyyy)

front and rear running off h.u..-

any one know a good sq amp that has a gain dial and does 600-1000 wrms @ 2 ohms? e bay about $300-$400.??-id prefer an older school amp that has a good reputation over a new amp that almost no-one as tried!

They are the exact same thing.

Use you're EQ to make a low volume setting and a high volume setting if you don't want to use the loudness funtion.

Orion has a few sub amps floating around E-bay for a pretty good price.

Don't worry about the gain/sensitivity control they ALL have one.

thats a f&c*i4g good idea-never thought of that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif ..........ill try it!.................doh!

so for an extreme example running 8 volts in to a .2 volt input is going to ......
Clip the shit out of the amp when you turn it up.

That's why the amps have a gain knob (or "variable input" knob....yes, they are the same thing). When running 8V into the amp, you wouldn't set the gain to .2V, you'd set it to 8V (or it's minimum setting if the gain doesn't go down to 8V).

weird you say 'down to 8 volts' i woulda thought .2V was way less than 8v and therefore youd have to go 'up' to 8v?

also, i understand clipping a sub (not enough power clips the signal) but why does an amp clip if the input voltage is set to high?

adjusting the eq worked quite well?....imagine.......................i guess im so biased against tone controlls i had overlooked useing them ............COMPLETELY!
