I want to set the gain properly on my txa6004. Yes, I know how to do it using a DMM and have done it many times on my other amps, but as some of you may know the Cadence txa line does not have a regulated power supply and therefore cannot be set using the DMM method (Can anyone explain this to me? I was told this by Jason Paul at Cadence as well as read about it here).
I'm aware that the most accurate method of all is using an o-scope, but I dont' have one and am not going to fork out the money to buy one.
Previously, iv'e been setting the gain on this amp by ear, but i'm not sure how accurate this is. I've attempted to use a 50hz tone and turned the gain up slowly, but to be honest I can't tell when the sub begins to clip. I use this method on my speakers, and when they begin to clip there is a very noticeable change in the tone they are producing. However, when I do this on my sub it just gets louder and louder. What is it exactly that I should be listening for? My head units at 46/62 (75%).
