i adjusted my gains a little better the other day and it has improved the sq a lot.im supprised really supprised? was listening to music @ about 90% on hu most of the time, adjusted gains so music is the same volume as before but @ 50% on hu volume(turned amps gains up) sound is way cleaner and more bass? was getting lots of thump before and less actual bass?now there is less thump and more actual bass? i dont understand it fully but maybe there is more to this gain setting then b.s.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eyebrow.gif.fe2c18d8720fe8c7eaed347b21ea05a5.gif

i think what's happening is that your head unit's volume control has no headroom for it's EQ function

basically, say your head unit's maximum output voltage is 5 volts... your volume control with a flat eq maxes out your head unit's output voltage, so your eq. has less and less effect the higher your volume

so say your maximum volume is 20... well, if your bass eq. is @ +5dB, then your bass voltage is maxed out @ volume +15, and if you increase your volume above this, a bass eq. setting of +5 is no longer possible

some head units are like this, and some aren't

regardless, glad to hear you noticed an improvement

so does flat generally mean FLAT (preset), or can we use rock, rap, country, ect presets and it will still give you that "flat" increase. im not talking about user eq.

Yes that is good news. Like stated in earlier post, gains are a vital part of tunning your system. Remember distortion is a 4 letter word here. It is nice to be able to turn up the volume and not have to worrie about distortion. As for the flat settings, I personally use my own and set accordingly. I don't mess with the preset.

FLAT is flat. All the others you mentioned are not. They will boost some frequencies different amounts the other frequencies. I would not recommend using EQ presets.

Design and build the system so you have to use as little EQ as possible. Try to only cut and not boost. If you have to boost keep it to 3dB's or less per band.
