I've read some confusing posts about this subject.
I want to run a single battery in my new install (along with a 260A alternator.)
It's going to need to be dependable for starting (it's in the trunk, and the trunk can't be opened without a battery, so any time the battery dies, i have to hook up an auxiliary battery under the hood with jumper cables.)
I've had somewhat shaky experiences with yellowtops in the past. I've always used the standard size (g35 perhaps?) yellowtops that they sell at autozone.
But i've read some people swearing up and down that a g31 yellowtop will actually OUTPERFORM a kinetik 2400.
The d31 yellowtop can be bought down the street from me for $250 plus tax, but the kinetik would have to be bought online ($330 is about the best shipped price i can find.)
Is it true that these batteries deliver similar performance like people say? For the price difference (and the drastic difference in cranking ampere output) i have a hard time believing this.
The only physical advantage i see to the kinetik is that they use those nice 3/8" threaded posts, so i wouldn't have to mess with battery posts, and could put my ring terminals right on the battery and call it a day (i have 50 1/0 rings ready to go) I know that the g35 yellowtops have side-posts, as well, but it doesn't look like the g31 yellowtops do (am i mistaken?)
What is the common opinion about these two batteries? I'll spend the extra $80 if it's going to be worth it. I've had a kinetik 800 cell before, which i was pleased with.
Scatterbrained post, but it seems like pros and cons for different batteries sometimes come down to opinion, and heresay. Anyone have any insight? Thanks in advance.
