Fuse Question

I purchased a JL Audio 4 gauge amplifier installation kit, installed it, and now realized the fuse that came with it is one of those "Blade Fuses" and is unfortunately 100A, meaning not easy to find a replacement. Reading the JL Audio web site is says for the 300/2v2 amp a 40A fuse is recommended. I called JL Audio technical support and he confirmed that none of their amps are fused, meaning the only fuse is in the power cable and it really shouldn't matter if I run a 100A fuse instead of the recommended 40A because the amp won't draw anymore than 40A. He said that fuse is really only there to protect the car and wire in case of an accident or something. I guess it makes sense, but wanted to hear other thoughts.

Yep, that inline fuse is just there for the line, not the amp, so you fuse it based on what the line can handle, not the amp. However there are some amps out there that recommend that you run a fuse in the line close to the amp based on the rating of the amp if there isn't an on board one, so if you want you can tie another fuse holder in close to where the power wire goes into the amp and put a 40a in it. But if JL told you not to worry about it I wouldn't

well.... ive never heard that before.....

if an amp needs to be externally fused @ 40A, why would it be ok to use a 100A fuse instead..??????, it MUST be internally fused @ 40A, otherwise the amp will burn out .....surely.
