Fuse question?

I have 3 batts in the trunk and 2 fuses, in front(front batt) and back(rear batt).

So 2 fuses bettween front and rear batt. All batts are agm.

But the wire that connects the amp to battery is not fused. it is only 12" long and will not touch chassis, but i heard something about battery shorts(something like that.)

My amps draw up to 400 amps max. Does it need to be fused?

First off do you have multiple runs of power to the rear or just one? if you have multiple you need more then two fuses(one on each end of the wire less then 12" from the bat). As for the needing a fuse from the bats to the amp if you can and this is not for competition i would. the problem i see is it is not easy to find fuses for more then 300A so if you only have 1 run of wire going to the amp then you may not be able to do it. also if you have a single run and it is 1/0 i would fuse it with a 300A just because that is all the wire can take.

I would say put a fuse on it regardless. and you got two amps running with no fuse from back batt to amp? i can see some issues in your future.

There are many things that can go bad. First the most dangerous is fire. It would result if the power wire of a bat were to touch a ground and arc or if your amp draws more power then the wire can handle and the wire heats up a lot then it could also cause a fire. Also if the bat were to ground out and not cause a fire it would discharge very rapidly and would damage the bat permanently by either dropping the voltage to low or damaging the internal components of the bat such as cracking a plate.....

What type of issues? They are no where near metal so they cant be shorted out .

Ive read on forum that there could be a battery short, and fuse it to not blow an amp, but my memory is rusted.

mmats amps have 2 input pos and 2 neg on 1 amp.

2 amps, im running 8- 4 gauge wires 15" in length, i dont think they ever get warm, i will have to double check.

I think 4 gauge wire 15" length can handle 250 amps.

fire from what?
Oxygen + Heat + Fuel Source = FIRE! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blow_up.gif.f2a780e8b12ae09e264cb01720b8dca2.gif AKA the fire triangle.

Many things can go horribly wrong in a very short period of time...trust us...a fuse is very cheap insurance. If you don't, well, don't say we didn't warn ya. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

Fuses are designed to protect the wire first, equipment second. That is why it is always recommended to fuse as close to power source as possible...so there is less chance of a fire.
