got an RA1000 w/ 3 -40A onboard fuses and big 3 under the hood. Ever since i've upgraded the inline big3 fuse pops(or melts I should say) - Is this because it was only an 80A fuse and I should have like a 150A fuse instead?

3 x 40 = 120A 120 > 80 = blown fuse

Thankyou Knu. I've got 4gauge wire on the big 3' it is Eko cable and the rating says 80A? That is the rating on the fuse I put on it...how much higher should I go?

How long is the run of cable? We recommend the Kolossus Kable for 120A at 17ft and that has 20% more strands then the eKo Kable, The cable you have will work, but you may have a voltage loss greater then 10% at the current draw of that amp. You will certainly need to upgrade the fuse to 120A or you'll continue to have the same problem

Sounds like you simply need to upgrade your fuse to one of bigger size, assuming ofcourse that your wire can handle the full amperage amount.

Sounds like you have a short somewhere.

The fuse shouldn't just pop as the amp turns on. It's not going to be drawing over 80a at turn on.

No, it sounds like you have a bigger problem than an undersized fuse.

Just replace the fuse with a little piece of copper tubing....hehehe....
