Enough Amps??

k, i have a 80 amp stock altenator in my car and i have been using a friends 1200.1 and it just seems to be shuttin off and im pretty sure its from not having enough power cause my subs are running at 1.33 and the 1200.1 is stable there so i dunno y it would be cuttin off other than not having enough power. I have just bought a 1200d and i dont wanna have that problem do un's think that puttin another battery in the trunk could possibly solve this problem? i just dont wanna have to buy a high-amp altenator cause my budget dont really allow for it.

any clues???

First make sure that hte gain is set correctly on the amp. Then, you need to check the voltage on the amp inputs when it is shutting off. If it is dropping below 10V the amp will shut off for its own good. If this is the case, start with the big 3 (sticky at the top of the forum) if you haven't already done so. Also check your amp ground and all power wire connections to make sure that nothing is loose or corroded. Either of these will cause resistance and will cause the voltage to drop under high current demand. If none of this fixes the problem, you will probably need a new alt or a rewound stock alt.

Could be going into protect mode. I was running an orion 2500D of stock 83amp alternator at 1ohm.

If it's the BP1200 it shouldn't unless you get below 1ohm. The BP is stable to 1ohm...same as the newer version of the BP--GTO Series amps. They are 1ohm stable even though JBL doesn't publicly state it. I ran my 601.1 at ~1.33ohms for a month with no problems.

I have no idea than, I would think that alternator would handle it unless its going..I ran my orion 2500D at 1ohm plus the ac with stock 83amp, stock small @ss batt.

its a kicker 1200.1 runnin at 1.33 and i have done the big 3 and im gonna check my grounds and all my conections 2morrow so ill let u know! the orion 1200d is supposed to b here thursday so i guess il find out 4sure what im gonna be lookin at then!!

ok got my amp 2day! hooked it up and it done exactly what the kikcer done except worse it cuts off like whenever u go to crank it up! i check all my power connections and my grounds and rca's everthings fine! and i know thats it not gettin enough power cause if im goin down the road in like 2nd gear tach'n like 4-5grand in my car then the amp will work untill u turn it to about 15-17 but if its just idel'n then it cuts off at like vol. level 8..

is there anything i can do other than a alt.???

you could get a bigger/better battery and do the Big3 but deffinately sounds like your issue is the alternator. just do it the right way and get a HO Alt

Sounds like the ground isnt secure, or getting a good connection and its shorting out once you put a load on it, or maybe the gain is too high. What gauge wire is it using for power and ground?

how much do you think battery's cost? they aren't that much cheaper than a new alt. and a new alt. would be more beneficial

i have 4ga run to my amp, and i have checked my ground and the gain is only like 1/2way up!. and i can get like 1000cca battery for like 75 bucks vrs like 400 for an altenator

alright i reran my power wire and got a bigger ground and checked all my wires and its startin to do a lil better but it still cuts off if the car is idel'n but if ur goin u can crank it up alll the way!
