Fuse failed in amp

One of my amps stopped working the other day so I checked the fuse on the side of the amp. It's a 20 amp fuse, and it should have blown, but it didn't. The fuse was burned and twisted inside but failed to break, so it allowed current to continue to flow into the amp after the fuse should have blown. I replaced the fuse and powered up the amp but it isn't working. The power light comes on for about a second and then it shuts down. Anyone have any idea what may have happened to the amp, and if it's possible or practical to repair it?

It's an old Clarion APA 2103. It's about 8 years old. I only use it to power my rear door speakers. This is the first time I've ever had a problem with it. In fact, the fuse that caused the problem is the same fuse that came in the amp when I bought it. I think it's more of a sentimental thing. This amp has been in four different cars, and was the first amp I ever bought. I'd hate to see her go but maybe it's time to bury the old girl in the back yard. I was just wondering if anybody could tell me what might have been damaged when the fuse failed.

I'm also curious to know if anyone else has ever had a problem like this with a faulty fuse. I've never known this to happen before.
