the best way to know is to measure with a clamp meter.

the fuse get warm/hot, that probably means there is resistance.

I dont think top spl guys use them.

 
It is because it is such a short distance. You also are not pulling 200 amps constantly.

If you are competing and run a fuse, tear that fuse out for your run. Just removing the fuse on a small setup (1000wrms) used for only testing gained 0.4 volts at the amp during the burp.

 
OK, here is the honest truth. If you are building a burp comp vehicle, fuses in general are going to minimally reduce your score. There are many many other things that can affect your score in a much larger magnitude. The construction of your enclosure is much more critical than a simple fuse. But, all things equal, a fuse will change your score minimally.

Now does that mean that daily drivers should run unprotected? Of course not. Could you ever hear a difference of fuse vs no fuse? Never. Would you be able to tell if your car burns down? Very likely.
