was doing some searching on here about what to do with the 6x8's in the front doors. And as i figured, everyone says to use 6.5's

Has anybody on here installed a set of 6.5's on an 05 Mustang? And if so were there any issues with the door panel? What speakers did you use?

Thanks

mike

I own a 1995 mustang, its 5x7's in the doors, 6x8's in the back I believe.

The sizes probably changed over the 10 years, don't take my word for it.

There shouldn't be any problems unless your trying to fit a speaker thats not stock size. (Where you have to resize the slot in the door panel)

I use JL Audio in the front and Kenwood in the back. It shouldn't matter unless you want something really powerful with good SQ. Just shop around, buy anything thats a good brand name and cheap with good RMS values.

If this is your first install, feel free to take apart the door panel, remember how it comes apart so you can put it back together. Take a picture of it, and I'm sure other people on this forum will identify the size.

Good Luck!

hey Mitch

thanks for the reply. This isnt my first install,i was just wondering what im looking into by changing to a different size. I was really wanting to go with a 6.5 instead of the 6x8 to get better sq. But im not about to hack up the door panel.

I may just try and find the best 6x8's i can find and run a clean amp to them. hell, anything would have to be better than what came in the car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Why are you questioning being able to run 6.5 in place of your 6X8''s? They sell adapter plated that screw into your factory 6x8 hole with a cutout for a 6.5" speaker, the 6.5" speaker would still be in the center of the original location. Only mounting problem you should even have to think about with that option is DEPTH of the new drivers

there is a thread i saw yesterday with pictures of baffles made to convert 6x8" to 6.5" its very simple. All it requires is some 1/2" mdf and a jigsaw. I will see if i can find it for you. I recomend getting or making the adapter and getting 6.5" mids.

the 6x8 in the doors of the 05- newer mustang is in a bad location...for proper SQ...your best bet is get a set of q-form kick panels...and re glass them for strength or do what i did and get a set of Image Dynamics mini horns for under the dash...if you have the Mach 500 or above upgrade the 8" location in the doors is nice because it gives you a .5 cu ft sealed enclousure...it needs re glassing for strength also...the stock 6x8 location does work good if you want to attempt to port the door sub location...for exiting your port....

You have (2) options the way I see it,

(A) check out the thread on how to make your own set of 5x7 to 6.5 adapters

(B) Do like I did and by a set online. I got a set from this place online and they cost $10 shipped, but thats only because I dont have access to any tool at the moment.
