front speakers the most important?

i was looking through some threads and noticed that people say you don't even need a back speaker, that they are just "fillers". I have a 99 cavalier, which is a fairly small car, and i was wondering if i just get a component set for the front and not even worry about the back. Or if i do get speakers for the back, just get a nice inexpensive coaxil?

What do you guys think about the Polk MOMO component set (6.5")? I really like midbass, and i hear polk has good midbass (at least on their home stereos, i love the sound of them).

Thanks.

It is true the front speakers are the most important. They make or break your sound stage. You can use rear fill speaker, But I recomend not putting to much money in to them. Most Polk comp sets are decent enough for the money. Try and go listen at a shop to see what your ears like.

Sounds like you're on the right track...

Read the "Sound Deadening Installation" sticky for more information on how to maximize midbass...the small things really do help //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

but the small things are quite expensive //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I have a '03 Srt-4 (basically a Neon) which is about the same size as your car. I have a good front setup and no rear speakers. If you were to sit in my car and listen, you wouldn't miss the rear speakers at all.

The single most important part of the whole sound that you will get from your system is the front speakers and their install. The install will totally make or break the sound, but you can only do so much with crappy speakers. Get the very best speaker you can afford, power them adequately (it doesn't matter how good the speakers are, if the amp is driven into clipping trying to get them loud enough for your tastes, then they will sound like crap) and make sure that the install is good. Deaden the doors. Make sure there is a good seal between the speaker and its mounting surface. Since you really want good midbass, either build sealed pods for the mids or make sure that the front wave is isolated from the rear wave for a good infinite baffle setup. If you are using an aftermarket head unit that features time alignment, take the time to adjust it. This adjustment can have a very large impact on the midbass response.

so can anyone list a couple things i might consider if i wanted to get good midbass?

So far it's baffles...yet what is "infinite baffle setup"

and also sound deading the doors. If i were to do this, could i keep the factory door apolstery and everything? I mean on the "sound deadening and you" sticky it doesn't show the factory door apolstery back on, i just see the speaker and the material.

Thanks! Also, The Momo's max RMS is 125 watts so should i go for the full 125? would it sound better if i were to have 125 vs. say, 80 watts?

Thanks!

Going solo in the front compared with having fronts + rears is totally a personal preference. In essence, you will have better imaging if you only have a front stage without rears.

This is a hypothetical system, could you tell me what you think of it?

Front: Polk Audio MMC6500

Powered by: Visonik V418XT 125W x 4 Car Amp

Sub: Polk Audio DB 124DVC

Powered By: Visonik V418XT 125W x 4 Car Amp

HU: Alpine CDE-9845

What do you think? I'm trying to keep it around 850 dollars or so.

I actually had a hell of a time getting my front stage loud enough for my tastes. Had a set of CDT CL 61's in the front. Without the rear fill, I found it near impossible to make them loud enough for my personal tastes or to be able to keep up with my subs. I ended up putting my old crappy Audiobahn $60 comps back into the rear just so I could get some midrange. The CDT's were running off a 2 channels of a RF851x. Keep in mind that the doors were not deadened and I had some major gaps around the basket edges due to my shitty thin doors and mounting possibilities. I am currently working on an active front stage setup. Gona get a set of 8' Dayton mids with matching tweeters and dedicate the 4 channel amp to them. Ordered a Pioneer 880 as a controller as it has mad tuning capabilities. Hoefully that will improve my SQ situation and wont force me to run my amp into clip to get loud SQ. It apprently is true that a good deadened and sealed door will do wonders for both volume and SQ.

Are you going to be getting two of those amps? Or just one?

if you had them properly powered and installed i find it very hard to believe that you could get them loud enough......i working on my new kicks and only have one done/installed and i can get that single 5.25" and tweet loud enough for me off of h/u power

it would be one single amp, i'd send 2 channels to the component (each side) and then the DVC would take the other two channels.

BTW: i heard the db 6500 today...wheres the mid's? the tweeter sounded way to powerful, and Circuit City locked the EQ and set it up on a really stupid JVC HU. Does the momo have good mids and midbass?

and finally...i heard the polk db Subs. Holy crap. Very nice. At least to me.
