Friend's problem with an Apline MRP500 Vpower and two Kenwood 12s

My friend bought two Kenwood 12's (not sure of exact model) with a ported box, and the guy threw in an Alpine MRP500 from a local shop. It has been beating for the last 2 weeks, this is as long as he had it.

The last few days, it has been playing until he would turn the volume up to around past 14 on the headunit. I cannot figure out what the problem is, and even the guy at the shop couldn't. He wanted him to pay 20$ to replace one of the subs, but it still puts out sound and is not blown. I tested the wiring and seen good voltage all the way around, on the fuses, the power, remote everything.

The only thing different in the last few days is that one of his tail lights went out, and the gauge lights are not on anymore, because of an unknown reason...

Any idea why this setup would be cutting out when the volume starts turning up?

None of that will have anything to do with the issue. Where and how is the amp grounded?
