fresh install causing audio drop

hi,

i have an aftermarked 200w head unit and a set of 200w 6.5 pioneers in the doors that worked just fine after i installed. i got the matching models at 250w 6x9 for the rears a month later and just installed. the audio stops going through the speakers briefly when the bass is loud. but. i can turn the volume well beyond the level that would cause it to stop playing sound if it is through just the fronts, just the rears, or just the left/just the right...but not if it is close to centered. any idea what is causing this? something with the wiring? i kept pos to pos, neg to neg consistent in the rear, and should match the front...any ideas?

welcome to the forum

first off just want to let you know, that 200w head unit you've got will never put out that power. 200w is a max rating, you always want to go by rms ratings. So that headunit is putting out 16-22rms x 4 (4 speakers) and the speakers will really handle maybe 50-80rms. seeing the discrepency there shows you one reason why amping your speakers gives you much better sound.

BUT your new here so read ALOT, trust me you'll learn more than you think.

as for your problem sounds like you may be experiencing distortion?

is that possible? i know what distortion sounds like on a normal level, and this isnt any sort of harsh peaking. the result is a very temporary lack of all audio being heard when too much bass is being pushed through all speakers...but only when all the speakers are doing it together. if i do one or one side of speakers, i can push it as loud as i want (until it does actually distort, but i can hear it distorting) but if all 4 work together and too much bass is there...i get brief gaps of sound...

thats because you are asking the HU to do something that is is not capable of doing. To solve this problems you will probably need to get a 4 chanel amp to run all four speakers.
