For installers at CCity/Best Buy...

At circuit city it depends on the shop... in saginaw I brought my own tools, but in Flint I didn't. They are SUPPOSED to provide tools for you, but sometimes they don't have everything.

At best buy you have to bring your own box, or atleast that's what they told me when they offered me a job back in december.

What kind of money can you start out making at like say, circuit city installing??? Anybody know?
I started at 10.75.

BB usually starts higher, but they don't give you bonuses like CC does.

And, I had to bring my own tools. The shop tools were just tools that the old manager left.

Okay.

Im pretty sure they don't do any sort of wood cutting at Best Buy.

I figure I should get a drill, some various screwdrivers, nice set of cutters, allen sets..

Can any of you installers reccomend anything to have?

I WORK AT R.C. WILLEY it's like a CC//BB but only on the west coast

i make commision and im make well over 16-17+ an hour unless it slow's down.. but i have been here for a year now and it all works out in the long run

i have all my own tools.

You will need a DMM, basic sockets and open-end wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, possibly a soldering iron, crimpers, wire strippers, door panel popper, drill, a nice bit set, utility knife and probably a few things I cant think of off the top of my head.

You make that much jesus christ? i'm going to kill my boss.

Most places involving tools you bring your own.... Especially smaller tools... a lot of places will supply the table saw, air compressors etc.. the larger stuff...

I guess I'm the CC goon from around here, so I'll answer some questions....

Depends on the area, different districts start at different pay rates. Minimum is usually 9.50+bonus, most I've saw is $11+bonus...(this is in michigan).

Cordless drill... 12volt or 14.4... you don't want anything bigger.

Standard and metric 1/4" and 3/8" sockets....

Panel Poppers(shop usually has them)

Good soldering iron, everything has to be soldered at ccity...

standard screw drivers...

allen wrenches

i don't use wrenches soo much... only when doing battery terminals.

a good set of auto strippers

a good set of cutters/crimpers

razer blade knife... the flip out kind

DMM

a extending magnet... good for when you drop shit

a set of bits... torx, security bets, hex, etc...

idk here is my box I had at work http://www.project04.net/workbox.jpg -nothing too big.

Do you have to be MECP certified to install at BB?
I know at CCity they paid you more if you were.
You don't have to be mecp at best buy when you start, but they pay for you to take the test and stuff... after you take it you get a pay raise.

And I don't know who you talked to but ccity does not pay more if you are certified...

Tool i use the most at work is PLASTIC TOOLS they make life sooo good and i would never work without them ever, also a good drill is needed i like my dewalt 14.4 it is great, also I use nutdrivers more then any socket. Of caurse autostrippers FTW and the snap on- ratcheting nut driver is real nice too. Good luck

Yea I think Im going to get the job. I hope so anyway because I need money lol.

Does anyone here work at BB specifically?

What did they ask during the interview or if you have any tips Id love to hear it.

Thanks for all the tips/help.

Man, I think EVERY CC installer has that box... as did I //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif and two others when I worked there...

I recommend getting a nice set of gate cutters, literally my favorite tool... a MUST have for me...

A LIGHT WEIGHT drill, something on the small side to fit in tight places. Like the Dewalt or Hitachi...

Sockets, Needle Nose, Hose Tool (for CD player cages), Picks (straight, hook, right angle), File, I love my snap-on ratcheting screwdriver, also a SKEW driver.
