floor standing speakers

i was thinking of getting some of these for my tv.. thing is i never had a nice tv worth getting external speakers for and now i do but i dont know much..so for a nice system does 1 buy just 2 of the floor standing speakers or 4 with 2 in front and 2 in back? i already know i want to get a subwoofer to go with these or i could just get a onkyo 5.1 system i hear those are really good for a system-in-a-box set up..

Here is what I do:

I have floorstanders for the front and bookshelves for the back and then a sub. I'd avoid HTIB.

More specifically, I am getting the

Jamo C605 x 2 (2.5 way floorstanders)

Jamo C60 SUR Left (dipole for the back)

Jamo C60 SUR Right "

Jamo C60 Cen

Dayton Reference 15" sub with 500w bash amp.

If you want something more cost effective, I am selling a Polk Audio set (5 speakers, Sub, no sub amp) with DVD player and Receiver. For $450/525 + shipping (I live in TN) the price depends whether or not you want the stands.

surprisingly the sony HTIB is actually not that bad for the price i have heard.

I use Jamo as well. Great speaker for a decent price. I have the now discontinued E 680 series.

Depends on the price range...
Their lower end HTIB sucks balls... most of their home theater is mediocre at best...

Now TV's, different story...
