Flat panel TV's survive out in the cold? lcd or plasma

I might be buying a tv that has been sitting in a storage unit for the past few months. Its Iowa, so its been pretty cold the past few months. I was wondering if the cold *** weather could damage the TV and if it could...if it is more likely that it did or didnt damage it. I'm looking for advice about both lcd and plasma, because I'm not sure which it is. I'm not able to test it before I buy it, so that's why I'm asking here. I'll be searching the net to see if I can find out the answer, but if anyone here know and can help me out that would be much appreciated.

Also will storing it laying flat really mess the tv up versus storing it upright?

Well on its face is definately not good for the delicate pixels.... Im not sure if laying on its back is bad... but I can assure you sitting on its face with anything touching and putting pressure on the screen is bad news.

1st, make sure its not laying down on its back or on its front. That is bad with any flat-panel tv.

2nd, if you do end up getting it, make sure you bring it in the house and warm up to above room temp b4 even plugging it in.

Do things right and you should be ok.

I would tell the guy that you want to try it out first....

And defiantly let it warm to room temp before trying anything.....

It's an unpaid storage unit that's up for auction. Im gonna go check it out tomorrow. Its a gamble..."buy it like you see it". Thats why I'm trying to get some opinions. Otherwise I'd test it first.

The liquid in LCD displays has a freezing point well below the freezing point of water, so unless it's nearing -30 degrees Fehrenheit, you should be fine (as B&W said, let it warm up first before powering it up, though).
You can store the displays horizontally or vertically as long as you prevent anything from putting pressure on the actual screen itself. Many LCD manufacturers ship the screens horizontally, but the packing material only touches the outer edges of the TV not the actual screen.

i love auctions.. and unpaid storage auctions are pimptacular. Lots of good stuff in them sometimes.
