Fitting larger speakers.

Can anyone tell me if replacing the factory 5x7/6x8 fronts of a 2002 Mazduh 626 with 6.5's is a daunting task?

If so, what kinds of things should I keep in mind so it remains looking stock and stealth?

I know I'll have to fab up some MDF adapters at the very least, so I thought I'd scout for some tips and advice from anyone who has had the pains and joys of replacing the front speakers in this model/era Mazda.

Thanks,

Wiz

take you're factory speakers. screw them to a piece of wood. (faceing down on the wood. screwing them to the pice, with the magnet side towerd you.) and use a table router with a flat bit with a bearing ontop of the bit.... let thebearing fallow the lip of the factory speaker and it will cut it out to a T...

then cut the desierd whole size in you're baffeles and screw the baffles to the factory speaker locations...

Thanks for the info, but I know how to make baffles, that's not my concern here. I'm just asking if anyone has experienced any difficulties with fitting larger 6.5" (2.9" deep) speakers in the factory 5x7/6x8 whilst retaining the factory fit and finish of the door panels.

If its a depth issue you might not really know until you take the door panel off, the speakers are 2.9"?? Thats pretty deep, even if you had to bring the speaker out a bit for it to have clearence for the window if that becomes and issue, it can still look factory as long as its got enough room to fit behind the factory grill, but if it was depth, you prolly gona have to pop that panel off
