eat whatever you want... drink whatever you want... BUT... don't eat crappy food within 2-3 hrs of going to bed... run 3+ times a week, or play basketball (great for people who don't want to just run)... a sport is actually better for losing weight because you will actually run more.. UNLESS your trained enough to run 4+ miles...... runnin 1-2 miles a day... every day, wont do SHEIT!!
and for eating... its all about portion control... dont eat until you are stuffed.
If you want to get a little better diet... get lots of fish and chicken
When I lose weight though.. I still drink my bers (in moderation) I still eat chips, and pizza, and ice cream....just can't go crazy with it.

you are right on most of that. BUT, if he's just trying to lose weight, and doesnt care about gettin in shape, he doesnt have to go through all that.. doesnt have to start counting calories... sh1t I lost 10 lbs in 2 week while drinking heavily... was runnin 5-6 miles 4-5 times a week though.. and I was only 5'5" 165... dropped to 155 in 2 week.. now resting at 145-150 for the last year (havent really been workin out either) just won't put the weight back on
