I'm in the market for a system for my car and I was hoping to get some reccomendations when buying one. I don't want and over powering system and I don't want an under powering system, i'm in the market for a decent set of subs, amp new headunit, basically a very good entry to mid class system.

I'm into alot of heavy bass music alot of dance/trance hiphop rap that sorta stuff. I don't want to spend that much money but i'd like to receive alot for as little as I can spend, I was reccomended to buy a few subs and amps but i'm not sure so I came here in the hopes somone could help me out

if so that would be greatly appriciated! thanks!

Greg

How much you looking to spend and what quanitites of subs, amps?? how much room do you have to work with, what car is it going into we need more info for us to help.

sorry I failed to add that information!

I have a 1995 VW JETTA GL, the trunk space is fairly big! and can fit pretty much up to a 15" but i'd like to save space for when I go shopping or on long trips where i'd need the space for luggage and what not.

so possibly 12 decent 12" with a sub to power them and also a nice headunit nothing overly exspensive but I don't want dirty cheap either so a mid range headunit that is good enough to power the stock speakers in my car as there is nothing wrong with them atm eventually over time ill upgrade those as well but for now I just want a nice set of 12s an amp and a new headunit

as far as brands go, i'm a big fan of JL but I do also like CERWIN VEGA, ROCKFORD FOSGATE, JBL...to name a few but i've been told RF is over priced for what they can handle but i'd like to be brand matched so if I get decent subs i'd hope to have an amp made by the same brand powering those subs, as far as the headunit I just want a decent one not really concnered if its the same make as the subs or highs in my car

i'm in the price range of anything under $1000 I don't want to spend to much as ive got a tight budget

12 12' subs?

well you could always get a cheap pioneer premier headunit from ebay, they are all pretty decent and range from 100 to 400 dollars.

you could always get a pair of shallow mount subs if you travel alot and may want to use your trunkspace alot of else get some nice decents subs like some type-r's, l5's, or someting along those lines that sound pretty nice and are in a pretty good price range.

and then search around for an amp that would power teh pair pretty good.

what are you looking for spl or sq???

I think with 1000$ you could get a bad *** system.

Well, I'm a die-hard Kenwood loyalist so my natural predisposition is to suggest something from them and preferably from their upmarket eXcelon offerings. So have a look to the KDC-X590, KDC-X790,and KDC-X890

Currently the forum e-boner is for the Pioneer Premier 880PRS and while I have no direct experience with that unit looking at the specs on paper it certainly seems a more than capable unit so have a look there as well. Other models in the Pioneer Premier lineup to give consideration to are the 860, 780, 9800BT...etc.

12" sub....are you wanting to go with a single sub to save some of that cargo area in the trunk or would you mind going with a dual-sub setup? (either is fine...there are more than a few 12" subs that a single one will provide more than adequate substage for the average listener)

@ yne721: sorry! typo so no just 2 12s

@ BigEM: not sure what SPL and SQ are...sorry! i'm well versed to a level when it comes to car audio. and I mean I don't want to save all that space, I have the room in the back of the trunk perfect for a nice set of 12s, which wont take up to much room ill still have alot left over which is more then enough.

as for the headunit I don't want to spend over $500, buddy mike has the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X890 and he payed almost $800 for it and I don't need somthing like that, the sad thing about it is that he never uses his system to its full potential so he just wasted money on that, I actually want a decent sounding system which I can pound but I don't want distortion, and in the end I don't want to spend the money on a high end system

I don't want to be chinced out on the sound quality just a basic headunit with some extra do hingies on it nothing over the top which can add some extra punch to the stock veedub speakers, and like I said a couple 12s and an amp.

Guys....our OP is in Canada so I will assume that the proposed $1000 budget is in Canadian dollars (an assumption further validated by the statement that a friend of his paid $800 for a KDC-X890 which in US dollars didn't retail anywhere near that) so his $1000 budget is going to be, according to XE.com's real-time currency conversion, $884.02 in USD.

With that in mind let's see if we can help him out. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

take one of those kickers off and give it the 1000watts that amp will push instead of 2 with 500? that'd be 800ish...

and on the toronto note, i met this fine *** asian girl last night while i was drinking in canada, and she was from toronto. and before the "worthless without pics" all i had was my camera phone in a shitty lit club //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif i got digits though //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Kicker has been spreading around quite alot lately, everyone I know has been mentioning them and they do seem quite the bang for the buck. Just not a big fan of the square subs although they are growing on me.
