first time installer - advice needed

Just ran through the list I made of my speaker wire colors, and none of them match what you have posted here. Is it possible that the diagram you found is for another stock system? like a Bose or something? Kind of explains to me why you have listed a red/black illumination wire, when i have no red/black wire, and explains why you don't list a Gray or a Red wire, like I have.
Sorry, missed that, ignore my post

That's basically just tape holding them in that bundle. Easily handled.

I thought it was shrink tube at first but it's actually like a really hard substance, almost feels like a plastic but I don't think it actually is plastic.

Could have got a harness from walmart for 10 bucks...
No, I couldn't. Walmart didn't have any for my car. Neither did any other audio/ car parts store around here.

OP, keep_hope_alive seems to have given you a fairly detailed line up of what to wire where, may as well go ahead instead of trying to re wire the factory harness.

The wires he listed don't match mine, at least the speaker wires dont.

better go find a junk yard and have them cut you off a harness as far in there as you can or else you are more than likely fu*ked if you cant find out what wire goes to what. Your lucky you dont have any newer of a car where cutting that harness will more than likely make you car not start or not go into gear or something goofy like that.

Wfs do you have a DMM (Digital Multi Meter ) or since you're a beginner a Light Tester ? You can pick up a Light tester at a local auto parts store for a few bucks.

Are you sure your car doesn't have an extra pre amp ?

See if this list matches up any better it's basically the same with the added list of Accessories : Extra Wires

POWER

+12V Accessory On.....................Blue with White Stripe

+5V Always On (memory)................Blue with Red Stripe

Ground................................Black

Front Speakers

Left (+)..............................Blue with Orange Stripe

Left (-)..............................Blue with Black Stripe

Right (+).............................White (may also be gray)

Right (-).............................Blue with Green Stripe

Rear Speakers

Right (-).............................Green with Blue Stripe

ACCESSORIES: Extra wires

Antenna Extend........................Pale Green with Yellow Stripe

Amp Power On*.........................Blue with Yellow Stripe

Dimmer (+)............................Red with Black Stripe

I do have a little cheapo test light, and could possibly steal a multimeter from work for a night. I wouldn't know how to make either of those work to my advantage though.

The wires you've listed still don't really match what I have in the car, unfortunately.

Also, I was foolin around with it last night for a little and figured out what the acc wire splice should be, and when I turned the car to acc. the light on the unit for the power button and eject button came on, but no other lights came on and I had no display on the actual screen. I'm assuming this would be because the illumination wire wasn't plugged in? The unit was also making a constant buzzing type noise, the only thing I could find online about this was that it may be caused by a bad ground, but everyone said that was when the buzzing was coming from the speakers, whereas the buzzing I had came straight from the unit and nothing from the speakers. Any ideas?

Do you have an idea of which are your speaker wires ? The way to tell is you get a AA battery and touch the wires to each side of the AA very briefly and the speaker will static. When I get back home I'll type out some steps on how to find your wires.

Another thing you can do is if your rear speakers are mounted on the rear deck of you car look at the wires there and match them where you cut the harness. Next will be to find where the wires are being fed into your front doors and see which ones match up. Hopefully you can at least find all your speaker wires.

Okay in your original post you said you had these wires left over :

Your Leftover Wires Stereo harness

Car Radio Constant 12V+ Wire: Blue/Red - Yellow

Car Radio Ignition Switched 12V+ Wire: Blue/White - Red

Before you connect them together grab your light tester and put the little alligator clip to ground. Pretty much anything metal behind your radio. Has to be bare metal though.

When you touch the Blue/Red wire with the tip of the part that looks like a screwdriver, it should light up . If it does Great ! Connect that to the Yellow wire on the Radio Harness.

The next wire you're test is the Blue/White wire without the key turned on this wire should not light up. Turn the key to the ACC Position and this wire should light. If it does wire this to your Red wire on the stereo Harness.

Now do you have any wires that match this list ?

ACCESSORIES: Extra wires

Antenna Extend........................Pale Green with Yellow Stripe

Amp Power On*.........................Blue with Yellow Stripe

Dimmer (+)............................Red with Black Stripe

This is what was typed in your original post and we should have just used two of them wires :

Leftover from Car:

Blue with White stripe ----------------- Used for Red wire on Radio Harness

Blue with Red stripe------------------------ Used for Yellow wire on Radio Harness

Red

Black

Yellow

Gray

And, a larger all black wire with an oversized headphone jack looking male connector (fits perfectly into the 'antenna' port on head unit, not sure if this is correct wire though)

Leftover from cd player:

Blue with White stripe Remote turn on for amp .

Red ---- Used

Black ---- Used Should be your ground wire.

Yellow ----- used

You think you're missing a Dimmer that should be an Orange wire on your Radio Harness that you do not have listed ?

The speaker wires I've had done since the first 10 minutes of attempting this. All i did for those, like you suggested, was just looked at the speaker itself, and matched up the wire with the same color wire sticking out of the dash. It's all the power wires/illumination/ground etc. that's causing a problem.

I see, thanks for the help, really wish I could go out and tinker with it right now lol but putting in the last few preparations for the game. I'll go out and put your advice into use tomorrow after work and then i'll post back with whatever i've found out. Thanks everyone so far, hopefully i'll get this thing working soon.

One thing i'm still unsure of, is where the illumination wire (specific wire still yet to be determined) from the car will splice into the head unit harness. Because the schematic I have for the head unit is the exact installation instructions that came with the unit, and it says nothing about an illumination wire.
