I've been on this site for a few years, but rarely post. I've always installed head units, but this was my first system installation, and it went well.
First, what I have is a 2000 Mercury Sable. I had a stock radio in, because it was the Sable with the climate controls. Well, they finally had a face plate for the Sable with CC's, so I bought a Metra Faceplate for like $165 (ouch, I know). I then got a cheap Chinese DVD/GPS combo, an RL-201 for like $269 (better than I thought so far).
After that, I went on Amazon and ordered a QUANTUM QKQ4 4-Gauge Amplifier Kit for $25.
Ok, now that those were installed, I turned to Craigslist.
I got a great deal on an amp, box, and subs from one guy. For just $65, I got a Kenwood KAC-8151D amp, and a box with two 12" Punch P2 subs.
Well, didn't fit in my trunk. It was roughly 34" x16" x 15". I needed to go around 30" x 14" maximum. I tested it in my backseat and it worked fine. Well, I needed a smaller box, so I pondered cutting it. I searched Craigslist one last time before I attempted to cut, and found another pretty good deal. For $50, I got a smaller box, this time a Dual Xobp12d 12" Bandpass Blue Illuminite. I brought it home, and it fit (off the top of my head, I think it is 29" x 14"), and sounds nice.
Now, I know compared to the experts here it is probably a half-assed system and all, but it's fine for what I need. I just want to know is this amp/box setup ok, or is one too powerful for the other? I also don't know what to set the dials on the amp to. Specs are all in the links provided above.
Also, is which box in your opinions are better, those Punch P2's or the Illuminites? On the Punch box, it had four speaker connectors (two positives, and two negatives). I was a little surprised to find that the Illuminite box had only two. Strange, I thought each 12" sub would have its own set each. My amp also has room for four. Anyway, I have the Punch box just sitting in my living room now. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
Anyway, sorry for all the extreme newbie questions. And opinions will be greatly appreciated, it's how I learn. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
