First System - $400 Budget

First off, I'd like to let you know that I'm completely new to both this forum and car audio in general. I apologize in advance for sounding newbish.

I drive a 1998 Toyota Corolla and I'm looking to build a system to replace my stock components. Hoping to spend approximately $400, or less if at all possible. Just looking for a very basic system; front/rear speakers, HU, amp, sub(s). Just for daily use while driving to and from class/work. Any suggestions you could offer would be greatly appreciated. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Your stock system would probably be better than that... You can try replacing the deck for $200 that will be an improvement.

Everything else would have to be used to go into that buget if you want the whole deal.

My son has a Mazda 3, Clarion CX501, $189.00 from Sonic, has 6x8 stock speakers, and just added an inexpensive Orion 10" entry sub $65.00 (sealed enclosure) and a Phoenix Gold 2 Channel used amp $20 bucks bridged to 160 watts x 1 @ 4 ohms.

Clarion CX501 (CX-501) In-Dash Car Stereo w/ Bluetooth and USB

His car surprised me, for what it is when I have to drive it the system is enjoyable and he really likes it. The sub setup just provides a nice compliment to the factory speakers and the clarion head unit puts out good power and controls the ipod nicely. Not a bad little setup, I can't fault it for the little bit of money he has in it.

Get a good head unit, add a small sub, should be good enough for now and better than what you have.

I would start with hu. Then keep an eye out for used speakers. There is a lot of stuff here in the classified section. Thats a tight budget but you should be able to do it.

$445 shipped-
Clarion CZ401 (CZ 401) CD/MP3/WMA Receiver w/ HD Radio, USB & Aux

Precision Power PPI S760.4 (S7604) Class AB 4-Channel Car Amplifier/Amp

Precision Power PPI A2.65C (A265C) 6-1/2" 2-Way Component Speaker System

400W Boston Acoustics 12" G112PS GTuned Series Loaded Enclosure
Definitely going to consider this setup. Thanks a lot.

Would it be too difficult/risky for me to install everything myself? Should I just get it done professionally?
