hey all,

First off i need some help with installing my speakers / headunit.. i have NO idea.. lol

I'm new to the forums, but im procal, im 19 and live in the uk, i have a 1980 Volkswagen Polo L, it originally came with 1 speaker in the whole car (facing towards the floor at, situated at the bottom of the headunit compartment) all of 8Watts of power WOW!

anyway, its shot, i've just brought a new headunit: a Sony CDX-S2052 4x50W RMS i believe, and a pair of Mutant X 2 Way 300W (150W RMS). Anyway, i realise that this is nothing special or extreme, its my first car.. and i just want reasonable sound.. to come from my CD's / radio.. (for the moment :p)

anyway, could someone please tell me how i go about installing these?

As the car only had 1 speaker originally, situated facing the floor, at the bottom of the headunit compartment (infront of the gear stick), there is no original wiring to use.. so im going to have to wire this thing from scratch..

Now, i want to put the 6x9's on the parcel shelf (or boot shelf), can someone tell me how i go about fitting these securely? in literally.. the dumbest terms ever..

I presume i need to cut 1 hole per speaker (enough for the cone to drop through) and the rest is the laws of gravity? - obviously i'd need to secure them further to stop them jumping out?

Also are there any laws, like how far apart will i want them?

I presume ill have to wire them underneith the carpet / upholstery.. - once i've done that what do i wire where?

Alot of these questions are slightly dumber than i need, but i just want a REALLY clear explantion before i go ahead and break something //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif - i can wire electronics, i study IT & Electronics, so that parts fairly well known..

really any help would be brilliant, some steps, or links to some good installation guides..? all these car forums i've been on are either unfriendly and full of retarded rudeboys trying to modify their Ford Fiesta 1000cc into a Nissan Skyline look alike, or plain just dont reply //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

- i hope ive found the right forum 2 post in! - Please Reply //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Thanks, proc

well, i see nobody has replied, and you seem nice enough, so i will.

Alright, i assume those Mutant X are 6x9's, given their power rating. Howeverm, install of any speaker will be the same. cut the appropriate sized hole, weather its 6" or 6x9, and use a self-tapping sheet metal screw x4 to secure them into the back shelf. you'll have to remove your carpet off of their to get a nice clean look. to wire, use the grey and grey/white wire, and the purple and purple/white wire to connect them. Just buy about 30 ft of 14 gauge wire, and run it under the carpet. connect the posive and negative to the speakers, and the positve and negative to the HU wires. since its just HU->speaker, + and - does not matter. i think that does it, PM me if you have any more questions.

Cheers, guys, i followed your advice as i first timer at any of this and i succeeded with this as the result :

I've wired the speakers under the carpet neatly with 14 gauge as u suggested, however i now have the problem of some wiring issues with the new headunit i have..

i posted with all relevant info and pictures here:

(it has Pioneer on the front of it)

u can just run new wires. run a wire straight from the battery. that will be ur constant 12 v and be sure to fuse it!!!. another wire from some thing in ure fuse box that only comes on when u start ur car. e.g. straight to the radio fuse. and u no the ground or u can make a better one. u can also run new speaker wire also.
