I'm finishing the frame off restoration of an old 1970's Jeep Wagoneer and although I am professionally capable in many automotive ways car audio is not my expertise. So.... I already have a one year old Alpine HU I will be using and want to keep the prices reasonable.. I also prefer to purchase it all from one place (like hifisoundconnection if they are reputable?)

Front doors are BIG with lots of room for anything - my chioce so far is JL XR650-csi comps (never had a set of comps shopuld be interesting) 218 shipped

Dont want multiple amps so I was thinking a 4 channel to run the front comps and bridge the rear for a small sub box. my choice is either the JL G4500 or A4300 $179-220 shipped

Never had a sub but I would like some decent low end so heres where I get dragged down... I can buy a box for $30 and a sub for anywhere from $30-100 and assemble them but which one to get? I was leaning toward the 10" JL. What about the inexpensive Kicker "square" stuff?

LOTS of room in the back as you can imagine but want to keep it simple and at my age quality is MUCH more important than quantity....listen to everything from the Cars to X to Bach to White stripes.

what say you?

Hey welcome aboard.

Keep your Alpine. But I'd go with a 5-channel amp. Something like this.

JL doesn't have a big following here because they are a little pricey. And if you're looking for a quality sub, it'll set you back more than $30! Haha!

Kicker makes perfectly fine gear, especially for the money. Heck for $190 you can get a 10" Kicker and enclosure like this!

Add a sorority chick and some wine coolers and you got yourself a date!

get that prefab kicker box outta there!

Bud If you want I have a JL 500/5 in mint condition for sale

It will do 100 RMS X 2 Front Channels

25 RMS X 2 Rear Channels

250 RMS X 1 Subwoofer

Hmmm.. interesting. Good info but if I'm not planning on a rear set of speaker why the 5-channel?

how about this sub kit.....

The hifonics amp looks good and is priced the same but is it "better" quality than the JL ?? It looks like it slightly less power @ 4ohm (which is what the fronts will be running at right? or should I bridge those too if I go with a 5-channel...hmmmm will those XR's take 2 ohm?

pm'd you on the 500/5 not sure it went through though.

thanks
