First post - need advice

I was referring to the front 6.5" speakers.
When you guys say the back shouldn't be loud, do you just turn the gain down on the rear channel or do you adjust the fader so you hear more out of the front? I'm just kind of confused why you wouldn't want much sound out of the back speakers.

Dave
Either way is fine.

The reason you don't want too much volume from behind is that it sounds unnatural. When you go to a concert where does the music come from? Directly in front of you.

The rears should do nothing more than mimic the reflections you would get from the back wall at a live show... and maybe offer a little something for the rear passengers... A minimal amount, though.

Oh, your amp choices are great. Just be sure to set the gains correctly to prevent overpowering the rears. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Well leave it to Beaver to answer a lot of my Q's. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif:D:D Thanks man.

Do you know if I have to screw the RCA cables down? Maybe for ground?

Component advice? Good, better, best?

Dave

I've never had a set of RCA's that I needed to ground. With that being said, there is a well known brand of head units on the market that has a tendency to puke the pico fuse and the easiest way to prevent noise issues with said head unit is to ground the RCA's... You shouldn't have to worry about that with yours.

What is your budget for components?

I'm a fan of rear fill. Maybe it's because I'm not getting a lot out of my 6.5s in the front. When my money gets right, I'm getting the Premier c720PRS components for the front. I haven't heard many of the higher end components, so I'm biased towards the stuff I can actually afford. But at 6.5, you can pick yopur poison. Try and listen to them before you buy them. Go to some shops and if they let you demo them do it.

Don't listen to the people who say that the rear speakers "shouldn't" be loud. It's all a personal preference. Don't get me wrong if that's how you like it, go for it, but personally I like rear fill and feeling like I'm "in" the music. I mean, if you're at a concert, would you rather be on stage (rear fill) or in the crowd (no rear fill).

If you want the rear speakers louder than definitely go for it.

Yes, by all means listen to this guy instead. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif
When a good set of speakers is set up correctly, it will immerse you in the sound, rendering ANY rear speakers as unnecessary. Those who say "I like rear speakers because I like to be surrounded by the sound" obviously have never heard a well set up and tuned system.

How many channels is that stereo recording done in? Two. So why would a second set of rear speakers be necessary? They wont, unless your stereo cannot reproduce the original recording correctly. This is not a propensity for enjoying being surrounded by rear sound, we all like that (duh). Its a propensity for setting up your stereo poorly.

No, we cannot all afford the time/money to build a sophisticated front stage that will image well in the car. Adding rear speakers can bandaide this problem. But make no mistake about it, it IS a bandaide. That does not translate to "my personal preference is rear speakers", you just think it does.
