first install.. need help

ok, i am installing my deck, it is a pioneer deh-p7200. i have hooked up all my wiring and put the stereo in. the first time it turned on fine, but it was muted, it actually said mute on the screen. then you press the brake pedal and the mute turns off and the volume comes on. weird?!? well i had a little break and went out and got the stereo for me and my friends trying to figure it out. they concluded that since i am not using an amp yet then we could disconnect the amp turn-on wire, so we did. took the stereo back outside and i didnt set it all the way in the dash, just sitting there, tried turning it on and now the stereo doesnt turn on at all. tried putting the amp turn-on back on and it still didnt work. now i dont know what to do. did i blow a fuse? did i hook up a wire wrong? my power antennae seems to be making weird noises, like its trying to keep going up even though its up. i didnt have a plug for the antennae plug, but have the power antennae wires connected on the harness, the antennae is still moving this way, is this causing problems? sorry for asking so many questions, but i am a newb, so be patient. ill get back on later tonight or tomorrow. thanks for your help on advance.
