Nothing Is Promised
Today was my first actual hu install..ive helped with many others just doing random things... the car is '95 Pontiac Grand Am SE

actual as in i did 90% of the work myself..did it for my friend Jon who just bought a 9845...alot of f'ups and alot of frustration and still didnt get it in...6hrs later..lol...didnt get in because 2hrs were spent on getting a SINGLE screw out..yes 2 hrs..it was striped when we opened part of the dash...another hr was thinking of best way to mount..anothr 30mins was eatting another 30 getting all the wires nice and tight..rest was testing mounting areas..changing screws..removing dash..etc..

had to come home..all we had to do was screw in top mount bolts then bolt her in to the dash then replace everything..the Alpine 9845 works completely fine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif so I did everything right..i know i know its not hard to install a HU

well i know you all are prolly like "installing a HU is the easiest thing ever!!" o well i enjoyed doing it so yeah...

what was everyones first HU to install 90% by yourself???

pics //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gifI havent even attempted installing a HU on my car. Ive only messed around with others.
well I neither or Jon have a digital camera..I will try to find a friend w camera tomorrow

only "problem" with the install is the the HU sticks out pretty **** far but its cuz it hit this metal post behind where the sotck radio was..idnk so we had to use the biggest face plate but with the center dash installed it looks fine..A/C controls are overtowered by the HU but i think it looks badass //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/up2something.gif.dd110ecf3ae4b76050d87598f2f8de7c.gif

i did my integra... but my factory was already out... just had 2 wire up a harness... plug it in and mount the dash kit **snap**.. first i did from start 2 finish was a stratus... those cars are so easy

dude. be glad you got that ****ing thing in.

pontiac grand am, from 95~99 is the most PAIN IN THE *** ive ever had in my life.

have to remove the ENTIRE ****ING DASH to get the god **** thing out. 00 and up - the little faceplate round the HU pops off and there are 2 screws. dont you hate yourself - it took me 6 hours to install a 12 with a crappy amp, 8awg wire, and the RCA\REM in a 96 grand am. sucked bigtime - specially since all the ****ing moulding clips broke like **** because the god **** things were so rusted. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

My first was done just a week ago: eclipse 3434. My only problem was i forgot i had to take out the factory amp to use the wiring harness. i find amps easier than HUs because im always afraid or marring/cracking the trim pieces

yeah you can say that again

has anyone here ever installed a HU in a 98 cadillac seville sts or similar year? im going to buy the car tomorrow and from what i could tell today from the looks of the dash it doesnt look very easy. it has the bose system btw if that matters any. im hoping i wont need to pay for an install.

thanks, i guess thats not too bad. also is it possible for the volume and skip controls on my steering wheel to work on a new HU?

After hearing that bose system i might just keep it in there because it sounds awsome. but then how would i hook up my amp and sub, would it be ok to run a speaker wire from an easily accesible speaker for the input or is there a better way to do it? and is using speaker wire instead of an rca for the input going to take away from the quality?

dunno bout ur volume and skip controls..but my fronts and rears are stock Bose 4.5" woofers hehe they work fine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif low end is JBL W10GTi in 1.75 @ 27Hz powered by Jbl 601.1

trying to sell Infinity Kappa Perfect 12VQ

you can buy an interface ... PAC SWI-X i think... that will let ur steering wheel controls work... as long as ur new radio has a wireless remote... and on that car you will probably have to buy an interface if you don't do a rewire/amp bypass and replace the speakers in the car so you can have sound with the new radio... if u dont' replace it... you can use an amp that has a high-level input and run wires from like your rear speakers... AFTER the amp... into the adapter... usually get the signal at the rear speakers...

there is i believe an 8" woofer mounted in the back that looks easy to splice from and would lead directly to the trunk. so are you saying if i was to splice into those wires (wich are powered by a factory amp???) into an adapter (what is this adapter called) and from the adapter to my amp that will power my sub? and i will get as good of a signal as if i were using rca's? is it possible that the stock player has rca outputs?
