Finally, I'm putting together a NICE system (HDC3)

SO an update:

1) got my Audioque HDC312

2) Built a box (2.6 cubes net after displacement, tuned to about 35 hz)

3) Bought a AQ2200D on craigslist ($300, with bass remote, receipt, and all materials = winning)

So far, I have the sub running at 4 ohm load (770W@4ohms) and it's definitely beating real nice. I'm gonna wire it to 1 ohm after the break-in period.

Yup. New 2012 Tc in Cement. Automatic (because my girl drives it, and I didn't want her burning my clutch out). It's a lease right now, because it was my first Scion and I wasn't sure if I'd want it. After having it for almost a year, I like the car, but I'm not in love with it. My girlfriend on the other hand is obsessed with it. My main complaint - the interior is really nice, but SUPER cheap. You'll scratch it if you look at it too hard. It's also a lot slower than I expected for a 2.5L, but the added weight from the sub definitely doesn't help. I would estimate at least 100 pounds

Right now I'm running:

Pioneer P4400BH Headunit (with ipod cable)

Stock fronts (6x9, 3inch, 1inch tweeter) @ 70W a side. They sound surprisingly very good.

The rears are switched out with Alpine Type R components running of an Alpine MRP-240 in bridge mode, 90W a side

I haven't even woodglued to top of the sub box yet (just screwed in) just to make sure the box sounds decent, and the port was done properly. Gain is about 1/2 way up on the AQ.

Can anybody give me some idea of my power requirements? My stock alt is 120amp. Should I considering getting another battery? No way I'm getting an alt because it's a lease.

gain is at half way? set ur sh1t up properly. and lol at break in period, wire it to 1ohm and beat the snot of it.

Face it rear?
1) yea, I have to take a voltmeter to it and do all the gains properly. I'm just making sure the bass remote doesn't clip, and i'm set with that for now.

2) I wanted to face rear but I wanted room to put stuff in the back without the sub hitting it. I hear that facing the sub up kills frequencies above 70 hz, so I'm going to try facing back, but I want to be able to USE my trunk as well.

It takes power to make power and when you grab 1st gear on the AQ2200, it is gonna get hungry awful quick if you are using stock electrical. At least the Big 3 and a Deep Cycle AGM up front and possibly the rear. The cheapest and most overlooked vital component in car audio is one of these mounted where you can keep a close eye on things that matter:

Stinger SVMR Red LED Voltage Display - Sonic Electronix

ps, that AQ sounds goood cruising at 4ohms, don't she.
Sounds cleaner, deeper, and sharper than my old pair of 12 inch kicker comps with an alpine MRP-500. It must be how I built the box, but EDM (deadmau5, zedd, etc) sounds amazing. The kick is PERFECT, not boomy or wobbly, just a nice kick and bass. However, when I play dubstep, I'm getting almost no low-end, but that could just be the subsonic filter being set too high (what should I set it to)? I have the LPF set to 100hz on the headunit and 100hz on the AQ2200. Furthermore, hip-hop kicks real nice, but I feel like I'm getting a real big drop off and non-flat response in some frequencies. Maybe because I'm not feeding it too much power?

Edit: I appreciate all the help. I'm kinda new to box-building and competition equipment, so feel free to correct me in anything I don't know, or am not sure of.

try the subsonic down around 20hz ( or off, and work your way up if needed)With what you are doing at the moment you should be fine that low. If you hear any mechanical stress, back off and raise it to @25 but I doubt you will drive the sub that hard. Check out this vid..lol..a 6.5" midbass on a 1000w amp free air, you will hear what I am talking about.

PS try the box flat, sub/port back about 5-6" from the rear wall.

So what is it about dubstep (skrillex, krewella, etc) that I get absolutely nothing down low?

Man, tuned to 35 is a tad high, but with ssf set low, you should not be having a much of a problem with dub. Like I said, turn the ssf all the way down to 10 and raise it just a hair, gain @ half should be fine, you should double check that with a DMM though, if you cannot tell by ear the change in pitch when the sub clips. You have 2v pre's. If I were you, I would shop for a 1/2 din eq/line driver to help get the pre amp voltage up and assure a good system headroom(not to mention some useful eq options )
